Morrison due back from DL next Friday

Notes, Quotes · Roster Report · Morrison due back from DL next Friday

Left fielder Logan Morrison could return to the Marlins next Friday, which will require manager Edwin Rodriguez to shuffle his lineup.

Emilio Bonifacio has been playing left field and hitting well in the No. 2 spot in the batting order. When Morrison returns, Bonifacio could stay in the lineup but play third base.

Greg Dobbs made his seventh consecutive start at third base Friday, but Rodriguez said the Marlins' bench is stronger when Dobbs is available to pinch-hit.

Bonifacio will continue to hit second as long as he's in the lineup, with second baseman Omar Infante hitting seventh or eighth. But Infante could return to the No. 2 spot again if Bonifacio isn't in the lineup.

"When Logan comes back, then we have to make a decision on what we were going to do with the lineup," Rodriguez said before Friday's 3-2, 10-inning loss to the Nationals. "Definitely I would like to have little more depth on the bench late in the game."

Morrison, out since April 21 with a strained arch in his left foot, took batting practice with the Marlins on Friday and will do so again Saturday and Sunday. He'll play at least two rehab games, probably starting Monday, either for high Class A Jupiter or in extended spring training.
