The Rock almost cooked up a UFC career? Getty Images

The Rock is a man of many talents. He started as a defensive lineman at the University of Miami before becoming a WWE superstar and then a box-office juggernaut. Well, in between the WWE and movie making, Dwayne Johnson was in a bit of a quandary, still figuring out the next steps of his career.

The wrestling great went on the UFC Unfiltered podcast on Thursday and said he at one point considered training for the UFC.

"There was a time there where I thought, man, I achieved everything I wanted to achieve in WWE, my movie career is floundering a little bit, what do I do?" Johnson said. "I was relatively still young, I think I was 34. I thought, oh well maybe UFC. Maybe I should do something like that."

However, he was just never able to put it together.

"In my head, I felt like it was at least a two-year process for me to even get in the [cage], let alone the UFC," Johnson said. "I wasn't quite too sure what to do or what kind of people to put around me at the time, so the idea kind of fizzled out and I continued to stay on the path of movie making."

It's curious to think of how The Rock would have fared in the UFC at that time. He would have clearly competed in the heavyweight division in the 2006-2007 timeframe against some of the legends of UFC like Randy Couture, Frank Mir and Tim Sylvia.

Another former WWE superstar was able to compete and win the heavyweight crown in the UFC in Brock Lesnar, so who's to say The Rock couldn't have stepped in the octagon and competed? Well, The Rock, who tweeted "I have so much respect for the fighters and dues paid and I hate getting punched in the face."
