UFC 205 press conference: Conor McGregor, Eddie Alvarez clash over glasses
It was one of the oddest and funniest exchanges imaginable to start the New York press conference
After it was announced Tuesday morning that Conor McGregoor and Eddie Alvarez would duke it out for the UFC lightweight title at UFC 205, the immediate excitement was around the impending press conference on Tuesday.
McGregor, easily the best talker in the game, did not disappoint on the stage when seated next to Eddie Alvarez in New York. McGregor played to the crowd, getting everyone amped up throughout before Alvarez hit him with probably the funniest attack possible.
"Why don't you take those stupid sunglasses off?" Alvarez said.
McGregor responded in kind.
The two traded verbal jabs for the entire presser. Here were some of the best quotes from the two.
McGregor: "They're going to have to gather an army together to take these belts off of me."
Alvarez: "You'll be belt-less Nov. 12. Belt-less. You'll have to give up the little boy belt and you won't have the big boy belt."
McGregor: "By the time 2016 closes out, I'll be closing in on $40 million. It's been a $40 million year for me."
Alvarez: "When I say fighter, I'm talking about how you deal with adversity, how you deal with being in a bad situation. He deals terribly with those."
McGregor: "One round it will take me to knock him out."
McGregor: "I've been whooping his style, that style -- he's a stocky, stuffed wrestler with an overhand. That's it.
