There will be no revenge against the fire extinguisher for Amar'e Stoudemire. Stoudemire has been out for more than a month after needing a second debridement on this knee, and his return has been a question mark for some time. On Thursday, Knicks coach Mike Woodson established Stoudemire as doubtful for the entire first-round series against the Celtics.

New York Knicks coach Mike Woodson has all but ruled out Amar'e Stoudemire for the team's opening-round playoff series against the Boston Celtics.

"I think he's going to be out,'' Woodson said Thursday. "That's my gut."

Stoudemire was on the floor during practice but hasn't started running yet. The veteran power forward underwent surgery March 11 to clean up debris in his right knee.

Stoudemire missed Game 3 of the Knicks' 2012 playoff series against the Heat after lacerating his hand punching a fire extinguisher. Stoudemire played just 29 games this season, averaging 14 points and five rebounds in a season shortened by the knee injuries which have plagued his career and rendered his contract ineligible for insurance when he signed with the Knicks in 2010.

The Knicks also announced Pablo Prigioni as questionable for Game 1 with a sprained ankle he sustained Wednesday. If Prigioni cannot play, Woodson said rookie Chris Copeland, who has been a pleasant surprise for New York, will start as Iman Shumpert moves to shooting guard.

The Knicks open the 2013 NBA playoffs Saturday, hosting the Celtics in a rematch of their 2011 first-round series.
