News that Anthony Davis is out for the season with various injuries is another tough pill to swallow for the New Orleans Pelicans. They have a franchise guy who has yet to play at least 70 games in a season in his four years. When he's healthy or even just healthy enough to play, he affects the game in a way few have. But he has a knee injury that surgery would help and he has a torn labrum. Maybe the toughest injury to consider is the latter, mostly because it's apparently been a problem for three years.

That's what Davis told reporters. He's played through a torn labrum for three years, which seems like something the medical staff should have fixed long ago when it first became an issue. Also, the latest injuries for Davis will keep him from playing in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The degree to which the labrum is torn is the key to just how much of a problem this would have been for three years. If it's a partial tear -- and depending on where in the labrum that tear exists -- then it's a manageable injury. Three years is a long time though and you'd think after the first season in which it occurred, you'd get it fixed. If it's closer to a full tear and he's been playing with it for three years, you have to wonder if he's a cyborg.

You also would like to hear from Pelicans management or the medical staff to know if this is the truth or an exaggeration.

The knee injury he's going to get fixed wasn't something that occurred recently, either. That's been a lingering problem for him, but we don't know exactly how long it's been there.

Regardless, the Pelicans have to fix Davis' maladies and then figure out how to keep him healthy. He's missed 68 games in four seasons with a lot of injuries. The medical and training staffs have to find a way to get him healthy for the future because they can't afford to keep losing him for big chunks.
