Corey Maggette says he'll retire if he doesn't make the Spurs' roster
Corey Maggette, a 14-year veteran, says his career is over if he doesn't make the Spurs.
The San Antonio Express-News reports that veteran Corey Maggette will retire if he does not make the Spurs roster. The 14-year veteran signed on as a training camp invite and is fighting for one of the team's final roster spots.

The 14-year veteran averaged only five points on 36 percent shooting in 14 minutes per game last season for Detroit. Still, this is a guy who averaged 20 points on 52 percent shooting three years ago. There's really no room in the league for him? Seems weird that no team would have a spot for him.
The problem is that there are 14 players who are essentially locks to make the roster. Rookie Myck Kabongo could be headed for a D-League stint in Austin and Courtney Fells is unlikely to make the final cut. But there's also no guarantee the Spurs carry 15 into the season. And if Maggette's talking like this, you have to think he's not overly confident this works out.
Maggette spent the summer with the Pistons' scouting department, exploring the possibility of a front office future. That's likely where he's headed when his playing days are done, so he has options. Still, it's strange to see a rotation player fall off this far, this fast.
