With Pat Riley and LeBron James meeting this week for the Miami Heat to pitch their star on re-signing with the same team he won two championships with, the Heat need to be able to show him upgrades or a fairly solid plan for keeping the roster competitive. The Heat have already agreed to a deal for the full mid-level exception with Josh McRoberts. Now they can also reportedly lock in another role player to show James as part of the plan.

CBSSports.com's Ken Berger has confirmed Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports' report the Heat have agreed with free agent forward Danny Granger for the bi-annual exception. That would provide Granger with a two-year deal for $4.2 million and the second year is a player option. Contracts can't be officially signed until July 10.

Granger used to be a very dangerous player in the NBA, scoring well over 20 points per game for the Indiana Pacers as their top player. Knee and leg injuries over the past few years have rendered him as nothing more than a hopeful role player off the bench though, and the Heat will have to hope for a revival project along the same lines as what they were able to do with Rashard Lewis. Granger was traded from the Pacers at the trade deadline last season to the Philadelphia 76ers, before receiving a buyout.

The Los Angeles Clippers signed Granger once he cleared waivers, and he became a part of Doc Rivers' rotation for the playoffs. He averaged 8.0 points and 2.3 rebounds in just 16.2 minutes in 12 games for the Clippers. However, in the playoffs those averages went down to 2.6 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 10.3 minutes. He's a career 38.1 percent 3-point shooter.
