Eye on Basketball Podcast: Derrick Rose done, Kobe Bryant extended

Matt Moore joins me today to do a little mourning for Derrick Rose's season-ending surgery. The Chicago Bulls will be without their star point guard yet again and we now try to figure out where they go from here. Is Derrick Rose going to get back to being the MVP-caliber player we saw three seasons ago? Should the Bulls blow up the current core, try to get bad enough to grab a big player in the 2014 draft and build around Rose and a prized rookie? Should they keep this core together or is it time to find a new plan around Rose?

Kobe Bryant has signed an extension with the Los Angeles Lakers to keep him in a Lakers' uniform for two more seasons. It's going to keep him as the highest paid player in the NBA over those two seasons, as well. Is this a bad move for the Lakers because of his Achilles' injury? Are they guaranteeing themselves salary cap difficulties or can you get around this contract and still have the flexibility to build a good team? Is there a level of loyalty we'll see here that could catch the eyes of other stars?

We discuss all of this, plus Luol Deng trade ideas, concerns in New York, and preview tonight's games.
