Five injured at Rucker Park shooting; Nate Robinson in attendance, uninjured

The New York Daily News and New York Post report that a man opened fire during an event at famous streetball court Rucker Park in New York.

Gunfire erupted around 10 p.m. at the Holcombe Rucker Park court on Frederick Douglass Boulevard near W. 155th St. after a dispute during a game for the Entertainers Basketball Classic, witnesses said.

"They started arguing, about a bad call or something like that," said Rodney Harris, 47. "The guy was standing no more than five feet away from me. He pulled a gun out of his pocket and shot once. He then shot one more time. Everyone started running."

Five people were injured in the shooting, but all are expected to survive. NBA player Nate Robinson was in attendance, but was not playing in the game, and was not injured in the shooting, according to witnesses to the Post.

Internet site World Star Hip-Hop posted a video taken during the shooting which shows the panic in the crowd as shots are fired.

Thankfully no one was hurt. It seems gun violence at recreational events is the story of the summer, and it's more proof of the scary kind of world we live in.

The shooting was reportedly the result of a disagreement in the stands, but it's not known at this time what the disagreement was over, or if it was basketball related. The Daily Times reports that the shooter walked to a nearby market and fired a few more rounds, for no apparent reason.
