LOOK: NBA 2K18 reveals Cavs' Kyrie Irving will be featured on cover of its next game
Irving kicked off the start of the NBA Finals by being named the cover athlete of the popular video game.
NBA 2K18 has named Cavaliers All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving as the cover athlete for this year's game, it was announced on Thursday morning. He will grace the cover for the popular video game as shown below. Shaquille O'Neal was named as the face of the Legend edition of the game.
Irving's Thursday is loaded with pressure as his team prepares to defend its title in the NBA Finals against the Golden State Warriors, but this is a tremendous honor that might ease some tension. He joins fine company who have appeared on the cover of the game alongside Paul George, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant in recent history.
The game is scheduled to be released on September 19 but fans can pre-order a copy of the game for $59.99.
This season with the Cavs, Irving averaged a career-high 25.2 points, shot 47.3 percent from the floor while adding 5.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds.
After hitting what turned out to be the NBA title-clincher for Cleveland last season in the Finals, he's officially etched into NBA lore -- and his face on the cover of the hit game only confirms that as the Cavaliers begin their quest for a repeat.
