Mo Cheeks fired as Pistons coach
Veteran coach fired after going 21-29 with revamped roster.
Ken Berger of CBSSports.com confirms a report from Yahoo Sports that Mo Cheeks has been fired as head coach of the Detroit Pistons. Cheeks was hired last summer as part of the Pistons reconstruction that saw ownership push for immediate spending to produce a playoff team, including signing Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith. But the team has wildly underperformed, looking lost and falling apart repeatedly in the fourth quarter.
Cheeks finishes with a 21-29 record in Detroit and is now 305-315 in his coaching career.
Apparently, Jennings wasn't informed about the reported move ahead of time.

Yahoo also reports on who is likely to take over as interim coach.
No interim coach has been appointed with Detroit, but assistant John Loyer is expected to be frontrunner, league sources told Yahoo Sports.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@WojYahooNBA) February 9, 2014
Considering owner Tom Gores' aggressiveness, expect the team to pursue a big name free agent after the season.
