NBA free agency rumors: Dallas Mavericks reportedly interested in Jrue Holiday

The New Orleans Pelicans have already stated their intent to try and re-sign point guard Jrue Holiday, who will become a free agent this offseason after four seasons with the team.

But the Pelicans won't be his only suitor when he hits the market. According to a report from ESPN, the Dallas Mavericks view Holiday as a free agent target this offseason as well.

Here's more from Ian Begley.

Holiday will likely command top dollar on the market and Dallas would probably have to clear some cap space to make Holiday a competitive offer. New Orleans would also like to retain Holiday and can offer him more money than any other team. Some in the Knicks organization are fans of the 26-year-old, though it's unclear just how strong that interest is from New York. The length and amount of Holiday's contract would likely take New York out of the running.

Head coach Alvin Gentry said earlier this week that re-signing the 26-year-old Holiday is the "No. 1 priority" for the team this offseason. Holiday has been in and out of the lineup with injuries over the past few seasons, but is now part of an intriguing young Pelicans nucleus that includes DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis.

Dallas' roster is fairly unproven at the point guard position, which could lead to a big run at Holiday to put alongside Yogi Ferrell, who played well in extended minutes toward the end of his rookie season. With J.J. Barea and Devin Harris, 32 and 34 years old, respectively, the Mavericks could use an injection of youth at the position either through the draft or in free agency. Holiday could check both the youth and experience boxes, and has proven himself to be an All-Star level player when he's healthy.
