NBA odds, picks, lines, predictions, best bets for Jan. 16: This three-way parlay pays 6-1

The eight-game NBA schedule for Thursday features several marquee matchups, including DeMar DeRozan and the San Antonio Spurs (-1) heading north to face the Dallas Mavericks, Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks (-6) visiting Memphis to face Marc Gasol and the Grizzlies, and the main event at 10:30 p.m. ET when Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors (-7) host Anthony Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans. Fans across the nation will be tuned in, but before making your own NBA picks and predictions, you'll want to see what SportsLine's top NBA handicapper, Adam Thompson, is saying.

Thompson is going huge, putting together a three-team NBA parlay that could return a massive 6-to-1 payout. If you risk $100, it would return $600. If you go big, it could be a life-changing night.

SportsLine's staff handicapper enters Wednesday on a sizzling 21-9 run on NBA picks, including hitting on all three of his Tuesday selections with ease, fattening the wallets of those who tailed his picks.

Thompson, who covered major sports for 20 years as a writer and columnist before joining SportsLine as a senior writer and handicapper, cites deeply-researched stats and trends you haven't considered to build his astonishing streak. We'll give one key part of his Wednesday NBA parlay away: Thompson is backing the Pistons (-3.5) against the Magic

Thompson knows the Magic are coming off a pair of impressive wins over the Celtics and Rockets, but both of those games were in Orlando. The team's play on the road has been a different story, as it's lost seven of eight by an average of 17 points. The Pistons have lost eight of 10, but their home splits have been much better, riding a 3-0-1 against the spread streak in Detroit.

This is a riveting matchup down low, as Detroit's Andre Drummond and Blake Griffin match wits with Nikola Vucevic and Aaron Gordon. Thompson likes the matchups on the side of Detroit, giving the edge to Drummond (16.8 points, 15.0 rebounds) and Griffin (25.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists) over Vucevic (20.1 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.8 assists) and Gordon (15.7 points, 7.6 rebounds).

If it comes down to three-point shooting, neither team is especially effective from the outside. The Pistons shoot just 32.9 percent, while the Magic are at 34.9 percent. But while Detroit struggles from outside, no team is better at guarding the perimeter than the Pistons, who rank No. 1 in three-point defense. Confidently back the Pistons to get the job done in the Motor City on Wednesday.

Thompson's other two picks for Wednesday are on underdogs. In fact, he is jumping all over two teams he expects to win outright in upsets. Find out everything you need to know to complete your NBA parlay selections only over at SportsLine.
