Nightly Grades: Rockets take down Knicks, Warriors escape the Thunder
The Rockets held off the Knicks despite a massive night from Carmelo Anthony and the Warriors topped OKC at the buzzer.
Each night, Eye on Basketball brings you what you need to know about the games of the NBA. From great performances to terrible clock management the report card evaluates and eviscerates the good, the bad, and the ugly from the night that was.
|A||Well, that was something else. Andre Iguodala's game-winner was an incredible answer to Westbrook's 3, but the Warriors nearly gave away a 14-point fourth quarter lead. They played magnificently, hitting 14-23 from 3 (they were 12-14 at one point), but had trouble closing things out both with their halfcourt offense and in getting stops against the Thunder's smallball lineup.|
|B+||They lost, but really, there's no shame in that. The Warriors were just a little bit more spectacular and if Iguodala's shot doesn't fall, the Thunder walk out with one of the best wins of the season. Kevin Durant wasn't his normal terrific self, but Russell Westbrook had his best game since his return and Serge Ibaka had a career-high 27 points. They lost, yes. But they still played a great game.|
|B+||A nice bounceback road win at the Garden, but it wasn't without controversy. The officials got the call right, but the Rockets weren't exactly ideal in closing the game out. They led by five and seven points inside of three minutes, but the hack-a-Howard strategy killed their flow and almost let the Knicks pull off a steal.|
|D+||Carmelo Anthony had 45, but it wasn't enough. And no, his and-1 3 should not have counted. The Knicks are now 3-5 and while there were positive signs against the Rockets -- Andrea Bargnani with 24 and surprisingly good defense against Dwight Howard -- but it's another loss and the bench was horrible. When will it get better?|
