Pelicans activate Ryan Anderson, Stiemsma suffers MCL sprain
New Orleans to be without reserve center but get back talented stretch four.
Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma suffered an MCL sprain during the Pelicans' loss to the Lakers Tuesday night, the team announced Saturday. An MRI confirmed no structural damage, but the big reserve will miss 6-8 weeks with the injury.
Losing Stiemsma hurts their depth at an already thin position, and means the undersized Anthony Davis will likely spend more time there.
In related news, the Pelicans activated forward Ryan Anderson for the first time this season after the stretch four chipped his second toe in preseason. That should help their offense, but won't do enough on the defensive end considering Stiemsma's injury. The Pelicans are ranked 26th in points allowed per possession via NBA.com.
