Pelicans' Jrue Holiday out for season after successful surgery
New Orleans Pelicans' point guard Jrue Holiday is out for the rest of the season after undergoing successful surgery on his right tibia.
New Orleans Pelicans' point guard Jrue Holiday hasn't been on the court since January 8. He suffered a stress fracture in his right tibia and has been sidelined ever since. After missing the previous 23 games with the injury, Holiday underwent successful surgery to help repair the injury and is now out for the remainder of the regular season.
From the team:
The New Orleans Pelicans announced today that guard Jrue Holiday underwent a successful surgery to correct a stress fracture in his right tibia. He will miss the remainder of the season.
This brings up an interesting scenario for the Pelicans. They acquired Holiday on draft night for the sixth pick in the draft (Nerlens Noel) and their 2014 draft pick. The first round pick in this year's draft is top 5 protected, otherwise the Philadelphia 76ers get the pick. At 23-34, the Pelicans have a respectable enough record but they truly know they won't get any better the rest of the season with the Holiday news.
They currently hold the 11th worst record in the NBA but they're only four games ahead of the Boston Celtics for the fifth worst record in the league. Can they possibly lose enough games the rest of the season to find themselves into not surrendering their draft pick to the Sixers this June? The Pelicans were 15-19 before Holiday went down. They're 8-15 since the injury.
