Pete D'Alessandro takes on Kings rebuilding job as new GM

The Sacramento Kings made the hiring of Pete D'Alessandro as their new general manager official Monday. After three seasons with the Denver Nuggets' front office, D'Alessandro has agreed to terms with new Kings majority owner owner Vivek Ranadivé to head a rebuilding process that includes new coach Mike Malone.

From the team's press release:

The Sacramento Kings today named Pete D’Alessandro as the team’s general manager, according to Kings majority owner Vivek Ranadivé. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"We are thrilled to welcome Pete D’Alessandro to the Sacramento Kings,” said Ranadivé. “In our GM search, we sought to secure the best and brightest in the game, and after an extensive search, we found the perfect individual. Pete is exactly the type of leader we need to help build a championship team in the 21st century NBA.”

"I'm excited about returning to Northern California, particularly at this time in the history of Sacramento," D’Alessandro said. "I want to thank Vivek for giving me this opportunity to be part of guiding the Kings back to greatness. I'm anxious to begin working towards building this exciting new era for the franchise."

D'Alessandro joins the reshaping process of a once-proud franchise as it re-establishes its foothold in Sacramento with the Kings staying in town and anticipating building a new arena. The new Kings' GM continues the wave of new Kings employees with ties to the Golden State Warriors.

Ranadivé was a co-owner of the Warriors from 2010 until this offseason when he became the majority owner of the Kings. Malone was on the Warriors' coaching staff the last two seasons under Mark Jackson and D'Alessandro worked for the Warriors from 2004 to 2008. They have also reportedly offered a consulting job to former Warriors player and executive Chris Mullin.
