Report: Carlos Delfino (foot) could miss start of season

Hidden in the Racine Journal's first report on Caron Butler being traded to the Suns, which was nearly finalized Wednesday night, was this news about Carlos Delfino

The Bucks, meanwhile, are committed to trying to make the playoffs for the second straight season. After a flurry of offseason trades and free-agent signings, they appear set at every position except small forward, which is where Butler plays.

Carlos Delfino, whom the Bucks signed as a free-agent in July, had been the projected starting small forward. But Delfino is still recovering from surgery for a fractured bone in his right foot.

There are whispers that Delfino will miss the entire preseason and even a portion of the regular season.

Delfino signed for three years at just under $10 million, with just the first two years guaranteed, but now the Bucks are kind of overstocked with rookie Giannis Antetokounmpo, Butler, Delfino when he returns, and Kris Middleton -- who is better than advertised -- acquired in the Brandon Jennings trade.

But the Bucks want veterans, so now they have Butler until Delfino returns. But Butler has had injury issues in the past, so there's the promising Antetokounmpo right there to soak up minutes. The change could be dramatic, though. Butler is better as a standard swingman, Delfino is a crack shooter. The shift in lineup strengths could be dramatic if Delfino's injury lingers.
