Report: Father of OKC Thunder's Enes Kanter released by Turkish government

Enes Kanter has been through a tough couple of weeks, as he was chased by police in Indonesia, detained in a Romanian airport after Turkey cancelled his passport, and learned about his father being arrested by the Turkish government, likely in retaliation for Kanter's criticism of the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Now, however, Kanter has received a bit of good news, as a report indicates that his father has been released from custody -- though he will still be under supervision. Via the Norman Transcript:

Turkish authorities have released Mehmet Kanter, the father of Oklahoma City center Enes Kanter, according to a report from AFP, an international news agency.

Turkish authorities arrested Mehmet Kanter in his home Friday, Enes Kanter announced on Twitter and later told reporters. He has been released under "judicial control," according to AFP. That means he does not have to remain in prison, but will still be under supervision.

Mehmet Kanter publicly disowned his son last summer because of his political views, though Enes Kanter admitted Friday that was a ploy to stay safe in Turkey, where both of Kanter's parents still live.

This situation is obviously still dynamic, but hopefully there will be a peaceful resolution.
