Former first-round pick and BYU star Jimmer Fredette will sign with the Chicago Bulls after he clears waivers, USA Today reports. Fredette was waived by the Kings Friday after a disappointing three years in Sacramento.

Former Sacramento Kings guard Jimmer Fredette has told the Chicago Bulls he will sign with them if he clears waivers, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the negotiations.

Fredette gives the Bulls an explosive scorer from the outside off the bench, something they desperately needs with their offensive issues. His minutes will be limited in a backcourt with Kirk Hinrich and D.J. Augustin (that's still weird to type), but he'll likely get opportunities to provide a spark. The Bulls' defensive system will also cover for his defensive liabilities in both size and quickness. Overall, it's a great fit.

We'll see whether a change of scenery can convert Fredette into an NBA-caliber impact player. He clears waivers 5 p.m. Sunday.
