Report: Joel Embiid to meet with Cavs, undergo physical
No other team will be allowed to meet with Joel Embiid until the Cavaliers do, according to a report.
The Cleveland Cavaliers will meet with potential No. 1 pick Joel Embiid "in the coming weeks" and conduct a physical, according to ESPN's Andy Katz. The center out of Kansas missed the end of the season due to a stress fracture in his back, and he won't necessarily visit with any other teams beyond Cleveland.
The 7-foot Cameroon native has been projected as a likely top choice throughout the season. That's why Embiid won't visit with Milwaukee or Philadelphia, which have the next two picks, until Cleveland has a chance to review his case for No. 1.
Embiid's representatives and the Cavs are working toward finding an appropriate date, time and even perhaps place to conduct the interview and physical. The possibility remains it could be in Cleveland but that has not been determined.
There's a sense that, if not for the back injury, Embiid might be the consensus No. 1 choice across the league. The Cavaliers are reportedly also considering his Jayhawks teammate, Andrew Wiggins, and Duke's Jabari Parker with the top pick, if they don't trade it. This physical could very well determine how the first few picks shake out.
