Report: Rockets to sign Earl Boykins
The Rockets reportedly are signing Earl Boykins to a 10-day contract.
With Kyle Lowry potentially missing the rest of the season with a bacterial infection and Derek Fisher being bought out, the Rockets are in need of a little point guard help. And so they got a little point guard help in Earl Boykins, according to the Houston Chronicle. (Little may or may not have been intentionally used twice in that sentence.)
It's a 10-day contract for Boykins as the Rockets obviously hope to get Lowry back. Boykins hasn't played in the NBA this season. The Chronicle reports Boykins is getting a physical Monday afternoon and could be available for Houston as early as tonight against the Kings.
The Rockets are currently sitting eighth in the West at 26-23 but without Lowry, are in desperate need of backcourt depth. So desperate in fact that they've turned to Boykins, who hasn't played in the NBA in a year.
Boykins, 35, averaged 7.2 points with Milwaukee last season, where Rockets assistant Kelvin Sampson was an assistant coach.
