Report: Shelvin Mack agrees to 3-year, $7.3 million deal with Hawks
Free agent Shelvin Mack will reportedly return to Atlanta.
The point guard averaged 7.5 points, 3.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds for the Hawks last season, shooting 42 percent from the field and 34 percent from the three-point line in 20 minutes per game.
After trading Lou Williams to the Toronto Raptors, Atlanta needed to sign a third point guard to go with starter Jeff Teague and the 20-year-old Dennis Schroder. Mack's minutes could drop some next season if the Hawks decide to give Schroder some more playing time, but they know what they're getting with him. Atlanta hasn't made a big splash this summer, but shouldn't be overlooked in the East with a returning Al Horford.
The backup point guard market has been interesting, as guys like Mack and Luke Ridnour -- who will make a reported $5.5 million over two years with the Orlando Magic -- are getting paid more than you might expect. The best ones still available are Mo Williams and Ramon Sessions.
