After a five-year absence in the NBA playoffs, the Washington Wizards returned to the postseason in 2014 behind the play of John Wall and Bradley Beal. Randy Wittman's coaching helped the Wizards post a record of 44-38, a 15-game improvement over the previous season, and the team earned the 5-seed in the East. The Wizards are reportedly rewarding Wittman for the success of the team with a contract extension.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Wizards and Wittman are close to agreeing on a three-year contract extension that would keep him through the 2017-18 season. Wittman had one year left on his current deal with the Wizards.

The Washington Wizards are nearing an agreement on a three-year contract extension with coach Randy Wittman, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Wittman's contract had been set to expire this summer, but both the organization and coach had been motivated to extend the partnership. The contract is expected to be finalized in the near future.

Wittman took over for Flip Saunders during the 2011-12 season before being brought back for the 2012-13 season and beyond. It was the third head coaching job Wittman has had in the NBA, after stops in Minnesota and Cleveland. Under Wittman, the Wizards not only made the playoffs for the first time in five years, but they advanced to the second round for the first time since the 2004-05 season.

He holds a career record of 191-329. With the Wizards his teams are 91-122.
