Rajon Rondo has been in trade rumors since the Boston Celtics acquired Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen back in 2007. Nothing has ever really been that close to coming to fruition but now that the Celtics look to be rebuilding their roster, we could see teams trying to poach the All-Star point guard from Boston. We reportedly had a very interesting offer from the Sacramento Kings that would have given the Celtics a healthy return.

Marc Spears of Yahoo Sports reported in his power rankings post the Kings and Celtics discussed a deal that would have sent Rondo to Sacramento in exchange for Isaiah Thomas, rookie Ben McLemore, and a pick. However, the talks haven't gone anywhere beyond that discussion.

Source said Kings and C's discussed a deal involving Isaiah Thomas, Ben McLemore and a pick for Rajon Rondo, but Rondo wasn't interested in re-signing with Sacramento and the Kings strongly value McLemore.

Rondo is coming back from an ACL tear in 2013 and has averaged 9.8 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.8 rebounds in 27.3 minutes since returning. He's played in 10 games this season. Thomas for the Kings has enjoyed a fantastic season so far, averaging 20.2 points and 6.3 assists while starting 35 of the Kings' 53 games. McLemore has shown flashes in his rookie campaign but has yet to make a real impact on games.

The idea of this trade is pretty interesting. The Kings would be giving up quite a bit with the hopes that Rondo would re-sign with them in 2015 when he becomes an unrestricted free agent and that he'll fully recover to All-Star form from his knee injury. The Celtics acquiring Thomas would instantly turn into restricted free agency this summer when the point guard hits the restricted market. With his production, the offer sheet could be pretty steep for a rebuilding team looking for flexibility.

The Kings are definitely big on McLemore and his upside after taking him with the seventh pick in the 2013 draft. Sacramento's new regime has already swung for the fences on a couple of deals this season and they look for a direction that takes them away from the tough mediocrity the last few years under the Maloof ownership. They acquired forwards Rudy Gay and Derrick Williams in different trades earlier this season.
