With Kevin Durant heading to the Bay Area, the Oklahoma City Thunder will be the Russell Westbrook show for the foreseeable future. And now that he's the main attraction in Oklahoma City, Vegas is predicting that Westbrook will win the 2016-2017 MVP award.
According to the latest odds from Bovada, Westbrook is now the sole favorite to win the MVP. He has better odds than Stephen Curry and LeBron James, who are second and third on Bovada's list, respectively. Durant, Westbrook's former teammate, has the fourth-best odds. Curry and James were the co-favorites to win the MVP in early August yet now a few weeks after his extension, Westbrook is in the lead.
Here are the full odds:
Player | Odds |
Russell Westbrook | 2/1 |
Stephen Curry | 4/1 |
LeBron James | 5/1 |
Kevin Durant | 12/1 |
Anthony Davis | 16/1 |
Kawhi Leonard | 16/1 |
James Harden | 16/1 |
Paul George | 22/1 |
Blake Griffin | 22/1 |
Damian Lillard | 28/1 |
If Westbrook actually wins the the award, it would mean that the Thunder were one of the top two or three teams in the Western Conference and among the best in the entire league. That could be quite tall task for Oklahoma City as the Warriors, Cavaliers, Spurs and Clippers are expected to be near the top of the standings. That said, the Thunder believe in Westbrook and so does Vegas, and at least based on these odds, it is his award to lose.
