Through 3 Quarters

Down one at the end of last quarter, the Houston Rockets have now snagged the lead. After three quarters neither squad has the contest in the bag, but Houston leads 89-83 over the Washington Wizards.

Power forward Christian Wood has led the way so far for the Rockets, as he has posted a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. One thing Houston has working against them is foul trouble: Kenyon Martin Jr., Jae'Sean Tate, and Garrison Mathews have all picked up some fouls.

Washington has been relying on shooting guard Bradley Beal, who has 25 points and five assists in addition to five boards, and small forward Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who has 17 points along with five rebounds. Beal does need to be careful, however, as he is in foul trouble with five.

This is the first time Houston has been ahead going into the fourth quarter in the past six games.

What to Know

This Wednesday, the Houston Rockets are hoping to patch up the holes in a defense that has allowed an average of 115.66 points per game. Their road trip will continue as they head to Capital One Arena at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday to face off against the Washington Wizards. They will be strutting in after a victory while the Rockets will be stumbling in from a defeat.

Houston's and the Philadelphia 76ers' contest on Monday was up for grabs at halftime, but Houston was thoroughly outmatched 71-50 in the second half. 2022 "welcomed" Houston with a 133-113 beatdown courtesy of the Sixers. One thing holding Houston back was the mediocre play of shooting guard Jalen Green, who did not have his best game: he finished with 12 points on 3-for-12 shooting in his 27 minutes on the court.

Meanwhile, it was a close one, but on Monday Washington sidestepped the Charlotte Hornets for a 124-121 win. The Wizards can attribute much of their success to power forward Kyle Kuzma, who shot 6-for-11 from downtown and finished with a double-double on 36 points and 14 rebounds in addition to six assists, and shooting guard Bradley Beal, who had 35 points and eight assists along with seven boards. That makes it three consecutive games in which Kuzma has had at least ten rebounds. Kuzma's points were the most he has had all year.

The Rockets are expected to lose this next one by 7.5. Those sticking with them against the spread have guts, to put it politely, as the team has let down bettors in their past eight games.

Houston is now 10-28 while the Wizards sit at 19-18. Washington is 9-9 after wins this season, and Houston is 4-23 after losses.
