Minnesota Timberwolves guard Tyus Jones was named NBA Summer League MVP on Sunday after leading his team to a 93-83 victory over the Phoenix Suns. Jones and the Timberwolves will face the Chicago Bulls for the championship on Monday.

Jones scored 29 points on 9-for-17 shooting with six assists against the Suns, and he averaged 19.4 points, 6.2 assists and 4.4 rebounds in seven games. He also made the All-NBA Summer League First Team, which is as follows:

  • Tyus Jones, Minnesota Timberwolves
  • Jordan McRae, Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Bobby Portis, Chicago Bulls
  • Ben Simmons, Philadelphia 76ers
  • Alan Williams, Phoenix Suns

And here is the All-NBA Summer League Second Team:

  • Jaylen Brown, Boston Celtics
  • Thon Maker, Milwaukee Bucks
  • Kelly Oubre., Washington Wizards
  • Norman Powell, Toronto Raptors
  • Tyler Ulis, Phoenix Suns

Jones' strong performance in Vegas is notable not just because media members deemed it the most impressive, but because of what it might mean for the Timberwolves. Despite what owner Glen Taylor said publicly, they might be near the end of the Ricky Rubio era. Minnesota drafted Kris Dunn No. 5 overall last month, and it all signs points to him being the team's future starter at point guard. It also looks like Jones might be ready to be a primary backup.
