Young boy dies the day before Roy Hibbert's scheduled visit

Awful. Just awful.

On Thursday, we passed along the heartbreaking while also heartwarming story of Roy Hibbert making his way to Sacramento to visit a 12-year-old fan of his that was dying of leukemia.

And on Friday, the day before Hibbert was scheduled to visit, Lee Eddins passed away. Via the Indy Star:

"I was very saddened and distraught," Hibbert said in an interview Thursday afternoon on CNN. "I want to keep his spirit and memory alive and be part of his cause."

Hibbert was on the way to the Indianapolis airport when he was informed of Lee's death. The 7-footer still flew to California to meet Lee's family.

Lee, who became a fan of Hibbert's while he was at Georgetown, had dreamed of watching Hibbert's Pacers take on the Kings when they visisted Sacramento. But because of his illness, that wasn't going to be possible, so Hibbert was set to come meet him.

Sadly, he was too late.

"He touched me without me even meeting him," Hibbert said of Lee during the CNN interview. "The way he fought, his strength, I dedicated my season to his cause."

Simply heartbreaking.
