The two-way player will suit up in Lakeland's matchup with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants on Wednesday but could rejoin the parent club ahead of its final pre-All-Star break game Thursday at home versus the Hornets. Jefferson has appeared in four contests for Orlando this season, averaging 1.0 point and 1.5 boards in 3.5 minutes per contest.
Mohamed Bamba (lower leg) could be in danger of missing a second straight game Tuesday in Oklahoma City, so Jefferson will rejoin the Magic and potentially dress as the team's third-string center in that contest. Jefferson, one of the Magic's two-way players, has seen action in just one NBA game this season. Over 31 outings with Lakeland, the Duke product is averaging 17.7 points, 11.4 boards and 3.6 assists in 33.5 minutes per game.
Jefferson, who went undrafted out of Duke in 2017, was actually a two-way player for the Timberwolves as a rookie, but never logged any NBA action and was instead deployed exclusively in the G League. He's remained a fixture in the G League again in 2018-19 -- this time with the Lakeland Magic -- but the opportunity arose for him to dress for Orlando on Monday with all of D.J. Augustin (ankle), Jonathon Simmons (ankle) and Timofey Mozgov (knee) sitting out. Jefferson finally made his long-awaited NBA debut in garbage time, but his performance probably wasn't anything that will convince coach Steve Clifford to include him in the rotation in future contests.
The Magic transferred Caupain to the G League's Lakeland Magic on Sunday.
Jefferson, a two-way player, has yet to see any action at the NBA level this season and was likely just up with the parent club for a brief period to fit in some practice time. He's averaging 17.2 points, 11.3 boards and 3.3 assists per game with Lakeland in 2018-19.
Jefferson tallied 15 points (7-12 FG, 1-2 FT), 14 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one blocked shot in the win Friday over Grand Rapids.
Jefferson put together an efficient double-double, claiming a nearly 25 percent share of the team's total rebounds Friday. The two-way player has been an effective big man for Lakeland, averaging 17.7 points and 11.0 rebounds in 12 games this season.
