Jefferson, who went undrafted out of Duke in 2017, was actually a two-way player for the Timberwolves as a rookie, but never logged any NBA action and was instead deployed exclusively in the G League. He's remained a fixture in the G League again in 2018-19 -- this time with the Lakeland Magic -- but the opportunity arose for him to dress for Orlando on Monday with all of D.J. Augustin (ankle), Jonathon Simmons (ankle) and Timofey Mozgov (knee) sitting out. Jefferson finally made his long-awaited NBA debut in garbage time, but his performance probably wasn't anything that will convince coach Steve Clifford to include him in the rotation in future contests.
The Magic transferred Caupain to the G League's Lakeland Magic on Sunday.
Jefferson, a two-way player, has yet to see any action at the NBA level this season and was likely just up with the parent club for a brief period to fit in some practice time. He's averaging 17.2 points, 11.3 boards and 3.3 assists per game with Lakeland in 2018-19.
Jefferson tallied 15 points (7-12 FG, 1-2 FT), 14 rebounds, four assists, one steal and one blocked shot in the win Friday over Grand Rapids.
Jefferson put together an efficient double-double, claiming a nearly 25 percent share of the team's total rebounds Friday. The two-way player has been an effective big man for Lakeland, averaging 17.7 points and 11.0 rebounds in 12 games this season.
Jefferson registered 20 points (9-13 FG, 2-3 FT), 13 rebounds and one assist in the win Wednesday over the Drive.
Jefferson hasn't provided fantasy owners much in the way of assists, steals or blocks this season, but his rebounding prowess more than makes up for his lack of peripheral stats. The 25-year-old forward is averaging 17.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists through nine games this season.
Jefferson tallied 20 points, 18 rebounds and two assists over 44 minutes against the Bayhawks on Saturday.
While his stat line benefited fantasy owners, Jefferson posted a minus-26 rating and committed a game-high six turnovers as Lakeland lost their second consecutive game to start the season. Even still, Jefferson led the team in minutes Saturday and will continue to be an upper-level option in G League formats when he's not at the NBA level with the Magic.
