Stephens recently agreed to a contract with Al-Manama of the Bahraini Premier League, Sam Amico of AmicoHoops.net reports.
Stephens previously spent time on the Grizzlies' roster this season, making one appearance at the NBA level while serving as one of the organization's two-way players. Memphis released Stephens from its roster in December, and the swingman apparently wasn't eager to continue playing for the Grizzlies' G League affiliate, the Memphis Hustle. He'll finish out the season overseas before presumably returning stateside this summer in pursuit of an invitation to an NBA training camp.
Stephens scored eight points (3-11 FG, 2-9 3Pt) and totaled 11 rebounds along with two assists and two blocks Thursday against Wisconsin.
Stephens shot just 27.3 percent from the field in a 124-113 victory over the Herd, but he managed to be effective on the glass, finishing with 11 boards. The 28-year-old forward is averaging 8.1 points along with 5.0 rebounds and is hitting shots at a clip of 45.0 percent from the field over 10 games this year in the G League.
Stephens will sign a two-way contract with the Grizzlies, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Stephens last played in the NBA during the 2013-14 season and has since spent time overseas. Last year, specifically, Stephens played for Le Mans Sarthe Basket of the French Jeep Elite league, where he saw action in 46 games and averaged 9.2 points and 3.7 rebounds across 21.3 minutes. He also spent time with the Grizzlies organization during the Las Vegas Summer League back in July, so the team is familiar with him. As a result, Stephens earns a two-way deal and will be able to spend up to 45 days with Memphis during the upcoming campaign. That also means that Stephens will get a ton of run in the G-League.
Stephens suffered a right shoulder injury in Monday's summer league contest against the Trail Blazers and is questionable to return, Michael Wallace of the Grizzlies' official site reports.
Stephens took a hard fall during the first half of Monday's contest and may spend the remainder of the night on the sidelines as a result. Still, the injury doesn't appear all that serious and Stephens would be considered questionable at worst should Memphis advance in the tournament.
