Payton posted 20 points (9-20 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), 12 rebounds, 10 steals, seven assists and a blocked shot in the 144-125 win Tuesday over Santa Cruz.
Payton flexed his genetic muscles, bringing back the second rendition of "The Glove" with a whopping 10 steals in what wound up being a convincing Conference Finals win. Payton hasn't been as dynamic of a scorer as other point guards in the G League, but 16.4 points, 7.6 rebounds, 6.4 assists and 3.0 steals across 28 games certainly aren't numbers to ignore. He'll look to keep up the pace in the G League Finals against Long Island.
Payton tallied 11 points (5-16 FG, 1-5 3Pt), 14 assists, 12 rebounds, two steals and a blocked shot in the win Tuesday over Northern Arizona.
Not being re-signed to a 10-day contract with the Wizards seemingly did nothing to torpedo Payton's stock, as the guard tallied a triple-double in his return to the G League. The 6-3 guard's season averages reflect that of a player that likely would benefit from more NBA experience as opposed to the G League, but it remains to be seen if another team might want to invest playing time in the 27-year-old.
Payton was informed after the Wizards' 107-89 win over the Pacers on Wednesday that he wouldn't be re-signed to another 10-day contract, Candace Buckner of The Washington Post reports.
Payton, who appeared in three games for Washington, will surrender his spot on the 15-man roster to another 10-day signee in John Jenkins. It's expected that Payton will head back to the Wizards' G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go, with the hope of being picked up by another NBA team at some point.
Payton is expected to sign a 10-day contract with the Wizards on Monday, Marc J. Spears of ESPN.com reports.
Payton, who last played with the Lakers late last season, will reportedly be given another chance in the NBA with a 10-day contract with the Washington Wizards. It's not a guarantee though that the Oregon State product will see the court while he tries to prove he belongs in the league. Last year, Payton averaged 9.6 minutes and 3.0 points splitting time with the Bucks and Lakers.
Payton tallied 29 points (14-23 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 0-2 FT), 15 rebounds, six steals and five assists in the win Thursday over the Legends.
The point guard posted a stunning 15 rebounds Thursday and is now averaging 8.8 rebounds, although that's only over the course of five games. The former Trail Blazers has had some experience in the G League, but a continually strong showcase might warrant a call-up by the Rockets in the near future.
