Drew Gooden: Released by Wizards
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden will not have his contract picked up by the Wizards, making him an unrestricted free agent, Marc Stein of ESPN.com reports.

Gooden's 2016-17 contract would have become guaranteed on Jul. 15, but with the additions of Ian Mahinmi, Jason Smith and Andrew Nicholson in the frontcourt, Gooden became expendable and will head to the open free agent market. The 34-year-old should be able to find a new home with a team in need of a veteran presence in their frontcourt, but after averaging a career-low 2.7 points per game this past season, to go along with just 2.8 rebounds over 10 minutes, Gooden likely won't be able to restore significant fantasy value moving forward.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Struggles through season with calf injury
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden suffered from a lingering calf injury and struggled to find playing time during the 2015-16 season, as he only saw action in 30 games.

Gooden suffered a right calf injury in November that caused him to miss all of December and major portions of January. By the time he was fully healthy in February, Gooden had fallen far down Washington's depth chart. He ended the season playing in only three games since the start of March. The 34-year-old does not plan on retiring, and Washington has the option to pick up the final year of his contract. Gooden's value next season will be contingent on where he ends up.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Plays two minutes in finale
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden played two minutes in Wednesday's season finale against the Hawks.

Obviously there's no major news here, but it's worth noting that Gooden saw the court for only the second time since March 3. The 34-year-old's deal with the Wizards technically runs through next season, though the contract is non-guaranteed, meaning if Washington waives him before a certain date, it can avoid any major cap penalties.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Hasn't played last five games
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden was a DNP-CD Monday as the Wizards beat the Pistons 124-81.

Gooden has only played five minutes in March and has not played in the last five games at all. Barring an injury or two, don't expect him to see an increased role this season.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Plays two minutes despite illness
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (illness) ended up playing two minutes in Thursday's loss to the Bucks. He totaled no points (0-1 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one foul.

The Wizards were listing Gooden as questionable in advance of the contest due to an illness, but he evidently felt healthier by opening tip. Now that the Wizards are reasonably healthy in the frontcourt with Nene Hilario and Kris Humphries since making their returns from injuries, Gooden may be hard pressed to regularly surpass 10 minutes most nights.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Questionable for Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (illness) is considered questionable for Thursday's game against the Bucks, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports.

Gooden is dealing with a minor undisclosed illness and could be sidelined Thursday in Milwaukee. Kris Humphries (illness) is also questionable, so the Wizards' frontcourt depth could be a bit thin if both end up out. Expect more information regarding their status' to be released prior to game time.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Will be available Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) has been cleared to play in Monday's game against the Celtics, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.

Gooden resumed practicing prior to the postponement of Saturday's game with the Jazz and fully participated in the team's morning shootaround Monday, so he'll receive clearance to play after missing the team's previous three games. The calf has been a recurring problem all season for Gooden, but after taking some more time off to recover, it looks like he's now back to full health. Gooden is averaging 14.8 minutes over his 12 appearances on the campaign and is unlikely to become a major cog in coach Randy Wittman's rotation.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Ruled out for Wednesday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Heat, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.

It's an unsurprising development, given that Gooden was unable to practice Tuesday. He'll be joined on the inactive list by Kris Humphries (knee) and Otto Porter (hip), which will enable Nene Hilario and DeJuan Blair to see more court time as the lone available big men off the bench.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Doesn't practice Tuesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) wasn't able to practice Tuesday, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.

That more than likely means that Gooden won't be available for Wednesday's game against the Heat, unless he can demonstrate in morning shootaround that day that his sore right calf has noticed some improvement. Along with Gooden, Otto Porter (hip) and Kris Humphries (knee) missed practice, so the Wizards could be thin in the frontcourt for yet another contest.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Out for Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Golden (calf) has been ruled out of Monday's game against the Trail Blazers.

Gooden continues to spend the majority of his season on the Wizards' bench, only taking the court 12 times this season, with six of those opportunities coming in January. He joins Otto Porter (hip) and Kris Humphries (knee) on the bench, leaving only Nene Hilario and DeJuan Blair as available front court reserves. He'll continue to nurse his sore right calf, with his next chance to return to the court coming on Wednesday.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Out Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) won't play Saturday versus the Celtics, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.

Gooden is dealing with a calf injury of unknown severity, joining Kris Humphries (knee) on the pine. Thus, only two frontcourt reserves (Nene and DeJuan Blair) are available off the Wizards' bench.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Double-doubles Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden recorded 10 points (4-10 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), 12 rebounds, three assists, and one block in 27 minutes during the Wizards' 114-100 win over the Bulls on Monday.

Gooden has dealt with calf and back problems this season, but helped the Wizards earn a much-needed win against the Bulls on Monday. Over the last three games, he is averaging six points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 threes, and 0.7 blocks in 17 minutes per night. With Marcin Gortat (knee) sitting out, Gooden was afforded a healthy load of minutes. However, Gortat's injury is not expected to be anything serious, and the 34-year-old Gooden is unlikely to have a substantial role at this stage of his career.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Gets back on the court Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) scored three points and grabbed three rebounds in 10 minutes off the bench in Friday's loss to the Raptors.

Gooden was sidelined for a while with his calf injury, but he was able to get 10 minutes in Friday despite still feeling soreness in his calf during his initial return to action a week earlier. Barring any further soreness, Gooden should continue to play a bit role off the bench for the Wizards moving forward.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Expects to play around 12 minutes Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) expects to play anywhere from 10-to-12 minutes in Friday's game against the Raptors, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.

Gooden hasn't participated in a game since Jan. 1, but is set to make his return to the court Friday. Considering the extended absence, the Wizards are going to ease the big man back into action and limit his playing time to no more than 12 minutes. This will likely be the case for Gooden during the first week or two until he's able to get his legs back under him.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Expects to play Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) said after Thursday's practice that he expects to play in Friday's tilt with the Raptors, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

Although it wasn't certain how involved Gooden was in Thursday's team session, he was apparently close to a full participant, so it's looking likely that he'll be active Friday. The Wizards are finally starting to get healthy after being undermanned through most of December, so Gooden isn't necessarily a lock to see the court Friday even if he's cleared to play.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Partial participant in Thursday's practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) was a participant for at least some portions of Thursday's practice, J. Michael of CSN Mid-Atlantic reports.

It remains unclear exactly how involved Gooden was during the Wizards' session, but we'll label him as day-to-day in advance of Friday's game against the Raptors nonetheless. He's missed the Wizards' last two games after tweaking his calf.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Ruled out Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) has been ruled out for Wednesday's matchup with the Cavs, J. Michael of CSN reports.

Despite going through shootaround, Gooden will be inactive for a second straight game after he tweaked his calf early in Friday's matchup with Orlando. The fact that he was initially considered questionable, however, indicates that he's not likely to be in for an extended absence. Gooden's next chance to play will come Friday against Toronto.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Goes through shootaround
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) went through shootaround Wednesday morning and remains questionable to play later in the evening against Cleveland, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

The veteran tweaked his calf early in Friday's game against Orlando, sidelining him for the remainder of the game, as well as for Sunday's matchup with the Heat. The ailment was never considered serious, however, and there's a chance Gooden could be back on the floor Wednesday if he's cleared by the team's medical staff prior to the contest. Full participation in shootaround is certainly a step in the right direction for Gooden.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Latest calf injury may not be very severe
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Randy Wittman said that Gooden, who re-injured his right calf in Friday's game against the Magic, isn't expected to miss significant time after this latest setback, Jorge Castillo of The Washington Post reports.

Though Gooden's injury was initially diagnosed as a right calf strain (which included a small tear), Wittman said that follow-up reviews indicated Gooden was dealing with more of a "tweak." The terminology would seem to indicate that Gooden won't be on deck for a long absence, but because he aggravated the calf while playing just four minutes in his first game back, the Wizards will likely exercise plenty of caution. Gooden ended up sitting out Sunday's game against the Heat, marking the 21st time in 22 contests that he's sat out.

Wizards' Drew Gooden: Officially out Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Gooden (calf) has officially been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Heat, Jorge Castillo of the Washington Post reports.

Gooden was diagnosed with a right calf strain, as well as a slight tear on Saturday, so this comes as no surprise that he'll sit this game out. He remains without a specific return timetable, so his absence could extend for multiple games following Sunday. Gooden has seen double-digit minutes in just three games for the Wizards, so even when healthy, his role in the rotation remains questionable.
