Kendrick Perkins: Begins broadcasting career
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins announced Tuesday via his personal Twitter account that he accepted a broadcasting position with ESPN, presumably signaling the end of his playing career.

The 34-year-old center last played professionally in the 2017-18 season and didn't attract any interest upon hitting the free-agent market more than a year ago. As a result, he'll now transition to a new role within basketball, hoping to put his 782 games' worth of NBA regular-season experience to good use as an analyst. During parts of 14 seasons in the league with the Celtics, Thunder, Cavaliers and Pelicans, Perkins averaged 5.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.2 blocks and 1.0 assist in 21.9 minutes per contest.

Kendrick Perkins: Waived by Cavs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins was waived by the Cavaliers on Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Perkins' team option for the 2018-19 season was picked up in late June in case salary filler was needed for a trade, but with free agency coming to a close, the Cavaliers no longer have a need for the veteran. Chances are Perkins' time in the NBA is done, especially since the Cavaliers are shifting towards building for the future.

Cavaliers' Kendrick Perkins: Option picked up by Cavaliers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Cavaliers will exercise Perkins' $2.5 million team option for the 2018-19 season, Dave McMenamin of reports.

This decision was made to give the team a potential added contract to put in a trade this offseason. Perkins likely won't see much action if he does stay with the Cavaliers next season, as he didn't appear at all in the postseason.

Cavaliers' Kendrick Perkins: Signs contract with Cavaliers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins signed a contract with the Cavaliers on Monday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

After being waived by the Cavaliers following the preseason, Perkins spent some time in the G-League this year, but will now get the chance to get called back up to the NBA ahead of the upcoming postseason run. Perkins, a 13-year NBA veteran, will provide some leadership and experience in the playoffs as a member of the Cavaliers, but likely won't see the court in a competitive contest. Perkins is not on the fantasy radar.

Kendrick Perkins: Retires from G-League
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins has retired from the G-League, where he was playing for the Canton Charge, Chris Fedor of reports.

Perkins' next career move is uncertain, but rumors were swirling about on Thursday's trade deadline that he could be looking at an NBA comeback. That said, even if that's the case, it seems unlikely he'd be fantasy relevant.

Kendrick Perkins: Waived by the Cavaliers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Cavaliers waived Perkins on Saturday to finalize their 15-man roster, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.

Perkins reportedly showed up to camp in terrific shape, but a loaded roster left him as the odd-man out. If interested, the veteran big man will likely be able to find a landing spot with another team. He averaged 4.0 points and 3.7 boards across 12.1 minutes in three exhibition games for the Cavs.

Cavaliers' Kendrick Perkins: Training camp contract safe
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins' training camp contract with the Cavaliers appears to be safe after the team opted to waive rookie JaCorey Williams to make room for Dwyane Wade, Joe Vardon of reports.

Though it appeared likely Perkins' contract would be on the chopping block with Wade's arrival, his deal is at least safe through training camp. The team will have to make some moves to get down to 15 men before the start of the regular season, however, so his role on the team may be re-visited at that time.

Cavaliers' Kendrick Perkins: Likely to be cut by Cavs
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins will likely be cut by the Cavaliers before the start of the season, Joe Vardon of reports.

The Cavs reached an agreement with Dwyane Wade on Tuesday, and the addition of the veteran means the team will need to clear a roster spot. Parting ways with Perkins would make room for Wade in camp, though Cleveland will need to make another move before the regular season to trim the roster to 15 players. Perkins, who did not play in the NBA last season, joined the Cavs on a camp deal on Sept. 21.

Cavaliers' Kendrick Perkins: Joins Cavaliers for training camp
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins will sign a training camp deal with the Cavaliers, Joe Vardon of reports.

The 12-year veteran's last NBA action came during the 2015-16 season with the Pelicans, where he averaged a meager 2.5 points and 3.5 rebounds across 14.6 minutes. He'll join the Cavaliers in an attempt to make a comeback, but is unlikely to make the final roster. That said, even if he does make the team, Perkins will be nothing more than a mentor to the younger players on the roster and wouldn't be a viable fantasy option.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Fails to score
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins failed to score, but collected four rebounds, one assist, and one block in Monday's 121-116 loss to the Bulls.

Perkins took only a single shot in his 17 minutes of court time. The 31-year-old was one of only eight active players for the Pelicans and the only big they had available to come off the bench. He is averaging 17.7 minutes per game during the month of April, but only averaging 3.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Ejected Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins was ejected from Friday's loss to the Trail Blazers after clotheslining Damian Lillard midway through the fourth quarter, finishing the night with zero points, five rebounds, an assist, a steal and a block in 18 minutes off the bench.

Perkins caught Lillard from behind right under the chin as the Portland point guard was cutting into the paint, and while it may have been unintentional, the fact that Perkins had been butting heads with Mason Plumlee just prior to the incident and may have been looking for retaliation certainly factored into the Flagrant 2 call. Lillard appeared to be uninjured and finished the game, but Perkins could still face additional discipline from the league.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Grabs eight rebounds, swipes three steals in Wednesday's start
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins provided eight rebounds, three steals, and one assist in 22 minutes during the Pelicans' 100-95 loss to the Rockets on Wednesday.

Perkins took Alexis Ajinca's spot in the starting lineup. Though Perkins went scoreless, it wasn't an awful performance, and it's possible he will earn another start on Thursday versus the Spurs. Nevertheless, Perkins is way past his prime, and there are likely a plethora of better options available on most waiver wires.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Will start in Wednesday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins will start in Wednesday's game against the Rockets, John Reid of the Times-Picayune reports.

Perkins will be replacing Alexis Ajinca in the lineup due to coach Alvin Gentry's decision. Gentry cited Ajinca's struggle with too many fouls as the reason for the change. Perkins will likely see and increase in minutes and could remain in the starting lineup for more than just Wednesday's tilt.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: In line for added minutes
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Alvin Gentry intends to give Perkins more playing time during the two-week absence of Omer Asik (ankle), John Reid of the Times-Picayune reports.

Fellow center Alexis Ajinca will move into the starting lineup in place of Asik, and so it seems that Perkins will only marginally benefit from added playing time. In fact, the 31-year-old has seen action in just two of the last 20 games, suggesting his new role on the team may not even amount to 10 minutes per game.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Doesn't see floor Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins (coach's decision) didn't play in Monday's 110-95 loss to the Grizzlies.

Since the calendar turned to 2016, Perkins has appeared in just two of the Pelicans' 15 games. Perkins will need an injury to either Omer Asik or Alexis Ajinca before he even joins the rotation.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Playing Bit Part For New Orleans
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins has played a very bit part in the New Orleans rotation since his return to action, appearing in five of the team's last nine games.

Even as a starter Perkins' role was limited for the Pelicans, as he averaged fewer than 10 minutes per game in such contests. Perkins hasn't scored in double figures since the first game of the season and hasn't managed five rebounds even once this year.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Makes return to court
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins (pectoral) made his return to the court in Saturday's 98-94 loss to the Bulls, playing one minute.

Perkins was available off the bench Friday against the Wizards and didn't play, and though he was able to get back on the floor Saturday following a month-and-a-half-long absence, it doesn't appear the center will be able to carve out much of a role. Both of the other centers on the Pelicans' roster, Alexis Ajinca (26 minutes) and Omer Asik (13 minutes) both well outpaced Perkins for playing time.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Active but doesn't play Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins (pectoral) was in uniform Friday but received a DNP - Coach's Decision.

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry wasn't quite ready to put the veteran on the court after his long layoff, even with Ryan Anderson sidelined due to flu-like symptoms. Perkins should see his first game action since Hallowe'en soon enough, but don't expect him to get many minutes when he does.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Probable to play Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins (pectoral) is officially probable to play Friday, John Reid of reports.

Perkins has not played since the third game of the season on Halloween. He had averaged 5.3 points and 2.7 rebounds in 9 minutes of action in that small sample size. He was originally expected to miss up to three months with a right pectoral sprain, so this is certainly quite the development. Perkins will be battling for minutes with Omer Asik and Alexis Ajinca, neither of whom have grabbed consistent minutes to date. If he is able to provide a spark, Perkins will have an opportunity to earn a spot in the rotation, however anything more than 10 to 15 minutes a night would be a reach.

Pelicans' Kendrick Perkins: Could be ready to play as soon as Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Perkins (pectoral) recently told CSN New England's Kyle Draper that he's targeting a return to the court Friday against the Wizards.

This is quite the development for Perkins, who was initially projected to miss as long as three months after suffering a right pectoral strain in early November. Just over a month into his recovery, it appears Perkins is progressing faster than anticipated, and if he's able to get in a few practices early this week, a Friday return isn't out of the question. While the Pelicans have been leaning on Omer Asik and Alexis Ajinca as their center tandem of late, neither player has been afforded consistent minutes due to their uneven play. As a result, it's possible that Perkins could work his way into a rotation role or even overtake Asik as the team's starter at center, but don't expect Perkins to play more than 10 or 15 minutes per night or offer much fantasy utility.
