Monta Ellis: Attempting comeback
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis plans to work out privately for at least five NBA teams in Las Vegas on July 8, Jordan Schultz of reports.

Ellis boasts a robust scoring average of 17.8 points per game across 833 regular-season contests spanning 12 seasons, but the 33-year-old shooting guard hasn't played professionally since 2016-17. After two years away from the sport, Ellis is apparently healthy and eager to resume his career, though his poor efficiency from three-point range for his career (31.4 percent) could hinder his efforts to resurface as an NBA bench player. If Ellis impresses in his workouts and ultimately signs with a team, he would likely have to accept a deal with minimal guaranteed money attached to it no matter where he lands.

Monta Ellis: Waived by Pacers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis was waived by the Pacers on Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Vertical reports.

Ellis, who was slapped with a five-game suspension in mid-June for violation of the league's anti-drug policy, has been waived by the Pacers. The move isn't too surprising, as the subtraction of Paul George has all but drained Indiana of their playoff hopes and thrust them into a rebuilding effort. Ellis, a 31-year-old veteran, likely wouldn't have seen much playing time anyway, as the trade that sent George to Oklahoma City also brought in Victor Oladipo, a young shooting guard who could command upwards of 30 to 35 minutes a night.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Slapped with five-game suspension
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis has been suspended five games by the NBA for a violation of the league's anti-drug policy, Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio reports.

The NBA announced the suspension in a press release Friday but did not provide any further details. Assuming Ellis isn't able to get the suspension reduced, he'll be required sit out the first five games of the 2017-18 season. Following the news, the Pacers issued the following statement: "Monta's suspension is a very serious matter to our franchise and it will be dealt with accordingly." At this point, it's unclear if Ellis will face any further discipline from the team.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Coming off bench in Game 3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis will move to the bench for Thursday's Game 3 against Cleveland, Scott Agness of Vigilant Sports reports.

Ellis has averaged just 6.5 points, 2.0 assists, and 3.0 rebounds while playing 26.5 minutes per game in two playoff starts thus far. His slow start has resulted in C.J. Miles getting the starting nod in Game 3. Look for Ellis to see a slightly reduced role while coming off the bench. It's unclear if Ellis will return to the starting lineup or come off the bench in Sunday's Game 4.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Having limited impact as starter
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis compiled eight points (3-6 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-4 FT), five steals, one block, one rebound and one assist across 24 minutes during Thursday's 104-89 victory over the Bucks.

Though he's made an impressive defensive leap since joining the starting five March 26 -- averaging 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks per game since then -- Ellis has been largely underwhelming on the offensive side of the ball, averaging 8.6 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists across 30.0 minutes per game while knocking down 42.4 percent of his shots. While the 31-year-old Ellis has demonstrated throughout his career that he's a capable scorer, he's taking a backseat to the likes of Paul George, Jeff Teague and Myles Turner this season, regardless of his spot in the rotation. While Ellis could be worth a pickup off the wire for those in quick need of defensive statistics, his offensive struggles may offset those benefits.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Will start at shooting guard Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis will start at shooting guard for Sunday's game against the 76ers.

Coach Nate McMillan said he was hoping to play a little faster Sunday, which was his reasoning for inserting Ellis into the top unit. C.J. Miles will head to the bench in the corresponding move and could see a slight down tick in minutes. In 23 previous starts this season, Ellis has averaged 9.3 points, 3.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists across 31.2 minutes.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Excels off the bench with 17
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis recorded 17 points (7-10 FG, 3-3 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist and one steal over 31 minutes in Friday's 125-117 loss to the Nuggets.

With both C.J, Miles and Jeff Teague in foul trouble, Ellis toiled in the backcourt for most of the game, and settled into shooting guard for good when Miles fouled out. This stat line is largely an aberration for Ellis, who only has fantasy value when an injury occurs. He's only a reasonable add in the deepest of formats.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Scores 12 off bench in Wednesday's win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis finished with 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-2 3Pt) with three assists and just one turnover over 22 minutes in Wednesday's 115-98 win against the Pistons.

After a stinker Sunday in Atlanta he has bounced back with 12.0 points and 3.0 assists over his past two outings. He is still averaging just 8.5 points per game, his lowest total since 2005-06 when he was a rookie in Golden State. As such he remains useful only in the deepest of fantasy leagues at this point.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Manages just three points in Sunday's win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis finished with three points (1-6 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 0-2 FT), three rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 22 minutes during Sunday's 97-96 win over the Hawks.

Ellis struggled badly on offense, and this is the third straight contest in which he has attempted less than 10 shots while committing at least three turnovers. He has mostly fallen off the map outside of deeper leagues, as his poor outside shooting has made it difficult for Pacers' coach Nate McMillan to play him alongside Paul George and Jeff Teague. If there's one benefit to Ellis coming off the bench, it's that he gets to operate with the ball in his hands more often. Nevertheless, Ellis is averaging fewer minutes, points, field-goal attempts, free-throw attempts, and steals than he has since he was a rookie back in 2005-06.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Efficient off bench in Monday's win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis finished with 12 points (6-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt) with eight assists and seven rebounds over 32 minutes in Monday's 117-108 victory against the Rockets.

The good news is that Ellis flirted with a triple-double. The bad news is that he turned it over six times, accounting for 28.6 percent (6-of-21) of the team's total miscues. He is averaging 12.0 points and 5.2 assists over his past nine outings despite coming off the bench. Ellis is a solid depth option for fantasy owners in need of points and assists in rotisserie formats.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Provides 14 points, seven assists Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis submitted 14 points (6-8 FG, 2-2 3Pt), seven assists, two rebounds and one assist across 31 minutes in a 113-104 loss to the Cavaliers on Wednesday.

Ellis has come off the bench in every game since returning from a right groin strain in December, but he's starting to reemerge on the fantasy landscape with his minutes and productivity trending up in recent contests. The veteran guard has seen 30-plus minutes in three consecutive games, averaging 14.0 points, 4.0 assists, 2.7 rebounds, 1.3 three-pointers and 1.0 steal in 31.0 minutes. It's unclear if coach Nate McMillan has any plans of eventually returning Ellis to the starting lineup, but so long as the 31-year-old continues to receive healthy workloads, he'll be worth rostering in most mid-sized or deeper leagues.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Scores 18 off bench Saturday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis scored 18 points (7-10 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT) while adding four rebounds, two blocks and an assist in 32 minutes off the bench during Saturday's 116-100 loss to the Bucks.

Paul George had an uncharacteristically quiet night, so Pacers coach Nate McMillan went with a smaller lineup for most of the game in an effort to generate some offense. Ellis was the main beneficiary, playing more than 30 minutes for the first time in 11 games. He's only scored in double digits twice during that stretch, but both performances have come in the last three games. He'll need to stay hot if he wants to hang onto this increased court time, however.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Plays only 14 minutes, goes 0-of-6 from field
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis (ankle) provided no points (0-6 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one rebound across 14 minutes in Thursday's 109-103 win over the Timberwolves.

Ellis was listed as probable heading into Thursday with the sore left ankle, but the injury may have been more limiting than that designation let on. The veteran guard has gone just 1-of-12 from the field over the last two games, and recorded more turnovers (two) than any other statistic during his 14 minutes Thursday. The Pacers will finish off a back-to-back set Friday against the Kings, and given his recent performance, it wouldn't be surprising if Ellis' playing time was restricted again, or if he was held out of the contest entirely to recover from the lingering injury.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Probable Thursday with ankle soreness
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis is listed as probable Thursday against the Wolves due to a sore left ankle.

Ellis logged 24 minutes Monday against the Knicks, and has averaged 27.5 minutes over his last four games. It's unclear if he tweaked the ankle in that matchup, or in practice later in the week, but it currently doesn't sound like the ailment will force him to miss any time. The worst-case scenario would be some type of minutes restriction with a back-to-back set on the horizon.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Pours in 15 points off bench in Saturday loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis poured in 15 points (6-10 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and added four rebounds, one assist and two steals over 33 minutes in Saturday's 109-100 loss to the Jazz.

The veteran guard posted only his third double-digit scoring effort in the last nine games, and his second-best scoring total since Nov. 23. Ellis notably saw his highest minutes total since Dec. 4, but his contributions continue to fluctuate wildly in his bench role, with one one-point outing and a trio of two-point efforts in the last seven contests.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Scores just two in win vs. Pelicans
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis tallied two points (1-2 FG), four assists, one rebound, one steal and one block across 19 minutes during a 98-95 win over the Pelicans on Monday.

Ellis has seen a reduced role lately and he only took two shots in the victory against New Orleans. Over the last five games, Ellis is averaging just 21.6 minutes per game, a drop from his season average of 28.4 minutes per game. He has only scored in double figures twice over the past eight games, so his value is trending downward.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: No longer on minutes restriction
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis is no longer on any sort of minutes restriction, Nate Taylor of the Indianapolis Star reports.

It's been four games since Ellis returned from an ankle injury and he hasn't played more than 20 minutes. However, he's now been cleared for a full workload without any limitations, which means we should see his playing time climb quite substantially moving forward. Coach Nate McMillan noted earlier in the week that Ellis is expected to remain in a bench role for the time being, but it's yet to be seen whether this recent news regarding his minutes will have an impact on that. For now, expect Glenn Robinson to remain in the starting lineup, although Ellis could make the jump back to the top unit in the near future.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Expected to stick in bench role for time being
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Coach Nate McMillan acknowledged Sunday that he expects to continue using Glenn Robinson as his starting shooting guard over Ellis for the time being, Scott Agness of Vigilant Sports reports. "We're going to stick with [Robinson in the lineup] right now," McMillan said. "Glenn has done a real nice job."

Ellis missed eight consecutive games in December with a strained right groin, and though he returned to action last week, he was held under 20 minutes while coming off the bench in the past three contests. It appears that the groin is no longer a concern for Ellis, but the veteran also entered Sunday's game battling a left ankle sprain, so the Pacers may not be eager to give him more extensive playing time, especially since he was struggling even before the injuries surfaced. Fortunately for Ellis, Robinson hasn't made a strong statistical impact while starting the past 11 games, but he's proven himself as an effective rebounder and defender, which has endeared him to McMillan. Look for Ellis and Robinson to be used in a rough timeshare at shooting guard until further notice, limiting the fantasy appeal of both players.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Available Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis (ankle) will play Sunday against the Magic.

Ellis came into Sunday carrying a questionable designation but he'll play through a left ankle sprain which he suffered Saturday in practice. Although, Ellis has seen his minutes reduced of late, averaging just 18.8 minutes over his last five games.

Pacers' Monta Ellis: Questionable Sunday with sprained ankle
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Ellis is dealing with a left ankle sprain and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Magic.

He presumably suffered the injury in Friday's game against the Bulls, but it was not revealed until Saturday. Rodney Stuckey (hamstring) has already been ruled out for Sunday's game, so C.J. Miles could end up seeing quite a lot of run in the backcourt against Orlando.
