Top Celtics News

  • Celtics' Al Horford: Has little impact Saturday

Horford finished with nine points (4-7 FG, 1-4 3Pt), six rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal in 21 minutes during Saturday's 98-86 loss to the Jazz.

Horford received the full Gobert experience Saturday, providing little impact on either end of the floor. The Celtics came out flat in this one, not surprising after their overtime victory only 24 hours prior. Horford somewhat salvaged his line with some defensive numbers but all-in-all was mediocre at best.

  • Celtics' Jaylen Brown: Forgettable effort Saturday

Brown had just three points (1-9 FG, 1-6 3Pt), three rebounds, and one assist in 24 minutes during Saturday's 98-86 loss to Utah.

Brown really stunk it up Saturday, hitting just 1-of-9 shot attempts to finish with three points. Brown has been disappointing this season and has suffered from the Celtics getting healthy players back. He offers very little outside of scoring and is more of a deep league guy at this stage.

  • Celtics' Kyrie Irving: Has 20 points in loss Saturday

Irving managed 20 points (8-16 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 3-5 FT), eight rebounds, two steals, and one assist in 30 minutes during Saturday's 98-86 loss to the Jazz.

After exploding for 43 points only 24 hours earlier, Irving and the Celtics were completely outplayed by a strong Jazz outfit. The entire starting lineup came out flat in this one and there is not really a lot to gauge from the performances of any of them. This game aside, Irving has been trending up in a hurry. He will get the night off before traveling to Charlotte to face Kemba Walker and the Hornets.

  • Celtics' Gordon Hayward: No minutes limit Saturday

Hayward, who played 39 minutes Friday against the Raptors, does not have a minutes limit for the second half of a back-to-back Saturday against the Jazz, Jay King of The Athletic reports.

The Celtics have been relatively cautious with Hayward up until recently. Friday's 39 minutes were a season high, and he's played at least 29 minutes in each of the past three games. It seems that Hayward may be a full-go moving forward.

  • Celtics' Jayson Tatum: Drops 21 in OT win over Raptors

Tatum scored 21 points (8-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 3-4 FT) while adding seven rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block in 38 minutes during Friday's 123-116 overtime win over the Raptors.

It's the third time in the last four games, and the sixth time this season, Tatum has struck for 20 or more points. The 20-year-old has taken a step backwards with his shooting percentage, in part because he's taken more shots from three-point range, but otherwise he's improved his numbers nearly across the board from his already impressive debut campaign.

  • Celtics' Kyrie Irving: Erupts for season-high 43 in OT win

Irving scored 43 points (18-26 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 4-6 FT) while adding 11 assists, three steals, two rebounds and a block in 39 minutes during Friday's 123-116 overtime win over the Raptors.

The point guard took over the game in the fourth quarter and overtime, scoring 11 straight points en route to 17 in the final 8:06 of regulation, before Irving factored into every basket the Celtics made in OT, either by assisting on it or draining it himself. He became the first Boston player since Antoine Walker in 2001 to score 40-plus points with 10-plus assists in a game, and he also cleared a couple of personal milestones with the performance, scoring his 10,000th point and dishing his 2,500th assist. The Celtics, and Irving, have had erratic starts to the campaign, but Friday's display should be an emphatic reminder that they are still one of the favorites to represent the Eastern Conference in the NBA Finals.

  • Celtics' Marcus Morris: Cleared to play Friday

Morris (illness) is available to play in Friday's game against the Raptors.

After being sidelined for Wednesday's game against the Bulls due to an illness, he has been cleared to return for an important home matchup with Toronto. Expect Morris to be a full go as usual off the bench Friday.

Wanamaker was assigned to Maine for Thursday's game against the Raptors 905, and he managed to score 30 points in 28 minutes in a losing effort. He'll now join the Celtics for Friday's game against the Raptors.

  • Celtics' Robert Williams: Recalled from G League

Williams was recalled from the G League on Friday.

Williams has gotten 15 minutes of NBA action this season, totaling five points, four rebounds, three blocks and an assist. He's expected to continue bouncing back and forth between the Celtics and the Red Claws.
