Top Heat News

  • Heat's Tyler Johnson: Probable Wednesday

Johnson (hip) is probable Wednesday against the Jazz, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Johnson was cleared off the injury report for Monday's matchup against the Lakers, but never ended up seeing the floor. It appears the team anticipates him being available again Wednesday, though it remains unclear why Johnson didn't play Monday. He's averaging 10.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 25.1 minutes this season.

  • Heat's Hassan Whiteside: Won't return to action Wednesday

Whiteside (personal) is listed as out for Wednesday's game against Utah.

Whiteside will miss yet another game while away from the team for the birth of his child. His next opportunity to return will come Friday in Memphis.

  • Heat's Derrick Jones Jr.: Shines on defensive end

Jones tallied eight points (3-4 FG, 2-2 FT), 14 rebounds, three steals and three blocks across 29 minutes Monday in the Heat's 108-105 loss to the Lakers.

The Heat had all of their core rotation players available Monday with the exception of center Hassan Whiteside (personal), but the packed bench didn't prevent Jones from logging significant run. For the second straight game, Jones pulled down double-digit boards while making a big impact in the defensive categories. Given that Jones failed to leave the bench in five of the Heat's previous eight games, it's difficult to invest in the third-year forward outside of deep formats, but his strong form in back-to-back outings should at least keep in the rotation for now.

  • Heat's Josh Richardson: Modest stat line in return

Richardson (shoulder) totaled 10 points (3-10 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five assists, three rebounds and one steal across 30 minutes in the Heat's 108-105 loss to the Lakers on Monday.

Richardson's stat line was solid but modest, and the shoulder inflammation that cost him Saturday's game against the Clippers likely played a role in his shooting struggles. However, the fourth-year pro has been scuffling from the field for an extended period, as he's shot between 14.3 and 36.4 percent in the last seven games. While Richardson had still managed to keep up his scoring totals over much of that span through sheer volume, a downturn in shot attempts over the last three games combined with his lack of accuracy has led to single-digit point tallies in each of those contests.

  • Heat's Bam Adebayo: Double-doubles in close loss

Adebayo managed 12 points (6-11 FG, 0-2 FT), 10 rebounds, five assists, two steals and two blocks across 29 minutes in the Heat's 108-105 loss to the Lakers on Monday.

Adebayo once again filled in admirably for Hassan Whiteside (personal), posting the second double-double of his three-game starting stint. The 21-year-old big man has proven a steady source of points and rebounds during his extended opportunity, and his performances could certainly serve to carve him out additional minutes over what he'd previously been seeing off the bench once Whiteside returns.

  • Heat's Kelly Olynyk: Strong off bench in loss

Olynyk amassed 15 points (6-10 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), four rebounds, three assists and one steal across 24 minutes in the Heat's 108-105 loss to the Lakers on Monday.

Olynyk drew even with Dwyane Wade for second on the team in scoring, posting his sixth double-digit point tally in the process. His accuracy from the field was an especially welcome sight, considering he'd shot just 15.4 percent on Saturday night versus the Clippers. Olynyk's recent surge and consistency have been encouraging, as he'd posted single-digit point totals in nine of the 14 games prior to his current productive stretch.

  • Heat's Dwyane Wade: Double-doubles in final LeBron tilt

Wade pitched in 15 points (6-19 FG, 0-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), 10 assists, five rebounds, one steal and one block across 32 minutes in the Heat's 108-105 loss to the Lakers on Monday.

Despite a ragged shooting night, Wade found his way to a stellar stat line thanks in large part to a combination of elevated usage and strong work as a facilitator. The 36-year-old has been particularly productive since returning from an eight-game paternity leave, but Monday's effort marked his first double-double of the campaign, which fittingly unfolded in his final matchup against close friend LeBron James. The main blemish on a memorable night was his miss on a would-be game-tying fadeaway jumper in the closing seconds, but Wade remains a steady source of production for both the Heat and fantasy owners.

  • Heat's Justise Winslow: Leads team despite bench role

Winslow compiled 28 points (11-20 FG, 6-10 3Pt), seven rebounds, two assists and one steal across 38 minutes in the Heat's 108-105 loss to the Lakers on Monday.

Winslow compiled a team-high scoring total despite his bench role, as he actually ended up pacing the Heat in minutes on the night. The 22-year-old now has three consecutive 20-point efforts, shooting an impressive 56.8 percent over that span, including 52.4 percent from three-point range. The fourth-year pro's production Monday brought his December averages to 18.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.2 steals across a robust 34.4 minutes.

  • Heat's Tyler Johnson: Cleared to play

Johnson (hip) will be available for Monday's game against the Lakers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

As expected, Johnson will be available off the bench after being listed as probable on Miami's injury report leading up to Monday's contest. He's averaging 10.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.2 assists over 19 games so far this year.

  • Heat's Josh Richardson: Will play Monday

Richardson (shoulder) will play in Monday's game with the Lakers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

After missing Saturday's game against the Clippers with shoulder inflammation, Richardson will play and presumably start Monday against the Lakers. Although he's struggled of late, scoring just 14 points in his past two appearances, Richardson is still a solid fantasy option, averaging 19.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 35.2 minutes per game this year.

  • Heat's Josh Richardson: Upgraded to probable

Richardson (shoulder) is listed as probable for Monday's game against the Lakers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Richardson missed Saturday's game against the Clippers due to a right shoulder impingement, but is doing much better and trending towards a return Monday. Assuming he plays, Richardson will look to break out of his recent slump -- he's shooting just 29.1 percent from the field over his last five games.

  • Heat's Tyler Johnson: Probable for Monday

Johnson (hip) is listed as probable for Monday's game against the Lakers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Johnson suffered a hip injury during Saturday's game against the Clippers, limiting him to just seven minutes. Fortunately, the issue doesn't appear to be anything serious enough to keep him sidelined Monday. A final determination on his status should come closer to tipoff.

  • Heat's Goran Dragic: Good to go Monday

Dragic will play Monday against the Lakers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Dragic should be ready for a healthy workload Monday after being withheld from the Saturday's game against the Clippers due to rest purposes. The veteran guard recently returned from an eight-game absence due to a knee injury, logging 11 points, 10 assists and three steals across 21 minutes in his first game back.

  • Heat's Wayne Ellington: Available to play Monday

Ellington (personal) is available to play Monday against the Lakers, Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

As expected, Ellington is back with the Heat after missing the previous two games due to a personal matter. He should immediate reclaim his usual role off the bench. Through 16 games this season, Ellington is averaging 10.0 points and 2.6 rebounds across 26.3 minutes per contest.

  • Heat's Josh Richardson: Questionable for Monday

Richardson (shoulder) is questionable for Monday's game against the Lakers, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports.

Richardson was unavailable for Saturday's game against the Clippers due to a right shoulder impingement, and that injury may be an explanation for his recent struggles. Expect another update on Richardson to come following Miami's shootaround Monday morning.

  • Heat's Wayne Ellington: Expected to return Monday

Ellington (personal) is probable for Monday's game against the Lakers, Anthony Chiang of the Miami Herald reports.

Ellington was held out of the last two games due to a personal matter, but Miami expects him back in their next contest. He should be available off the bench in his typical role.
