Timberwolves' Dario Saric: Could make Wolves debut Wednesday
The Timberwolves are hopeful that Saric will be able to make his debut Wednesday against the Pelicans, Jace Frederick of the Pioneer Press reports.
Neither Saric nor Robert Covington were permitted to take part in Tuesday's practice, per league rules, but the expectation is the trade will officially be completed prior to Wednesday's game. Assuming that's the case, both players should be available, though it's unclear how up-to-speed they'll be on coach Tom Thibodeau's system. Saric will likely step in as the starter at power forward, though he could face some competition from veteran incumbent, Taj Gibson.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Robert Covington: Hopeful to debut Wednesday
The Timberwolves are hopeful that Covington will be able to make his debut Wednesday against the Pelicans, Jace Frederick of the Pioneer Press reports.
The Timberwolves and Sixers are expected to officially complete the trade Tuesday afternoon, but both Covington and Dario Saric were held out of practice, as they weren't yet cleared by the league. Regardless, the hope is that they'll be able to go through shootaround Wednesday morning and be in the lineup for the home matchup with New Orleans. Covington figures to step into the starting spot vacated by Jimmy Butler.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Jeff Teague: Questionable for Wednesday
Teague (knee) is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Pelicans.
Teague returned to action Monday after missing seven games with a knee injury, notching 24 points, 11 assists, three steals and one rebound across 34 minutes. While Teague looked healthy in his return, he's apparently dealing with some lingering soreness, which is understandable given his nearly two-week layoff. Look for his status for Wednesday's game to clear up following morning shootaround. If the Timberwolves opt to play it safe and keep Teague out, look for Derrick Rose and Tyus Jones to benefit from some increased run.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Andrew Wiggins: Game-time decision vs. Pelicans
Wiggins is questionable for Wednesday's game against New Orleans due to a left knee contusion.
Wiggins logged 37 minutes in Monday's win over Brooklyn, but it appears he's picked up yet another minor injury. Confirmation on his availability should come closer to tipoff, with Derrick Rose or Josh Okogie likely to draw a spot start if Wiggins is held out.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Taj Gibson: Could face competition for minutes
Gibson said he would be OK coming off the bench if Dario Saric moves into the starting lineup, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Gibson started and played 33 minutes in Monday's win over Brooklyn and scored 17 points with eight rebounds. However, neither new acquisitions Saric and Robert Covington played after coming over from the 76ers. Gibson could be at risk of losing playing time with two new players added to the front court.... Timberwolves' Andrew Wiggins: Plays 37 minutes Monday
Wiggins put up 13 points (5-12 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block in 37 minutes during Monday's 120-113 victory over the Nets.
Wiggins, who has been in and out of the rotation of late, played 37 minutes Monday, scoring 13 points on 5-of-12 shooting. A lingering quad injury has cost him some time so far this season. The Timberwolves are about to add Robert Covington and Dario Saric to their lineup which is going to mean a reshuffle to the lineup. Wiggins is likely safe as the starter but there will be some depth on the bench moving forward, something the Wolves have lacked in the past.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Derrick Rose: Continues strong season Monday
Rose tallied 23 points (8-18 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 4-4 FT), six assists, two rebounds, one steal, and one block in 38 minutes during Monday's 120-113 victory over Brooklyn.
Rose managed 23 points Monday while chipping in with nice across the board production. That's four consecutive games scoring in excess of 20 points for Rose, who continues to turn back the clock with his performances. Both Dario Saric and Robert Covington are set to make their Timberwolves debut Wednesday which could send Rose back to the bench. Nonetheless, he has certainly played well enough to maintain a sizeable role in the rotation and should still be rostered everywhere until things slow down.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Jeff Teague: Double-doubles in return Monday
Teague had 24 points (8-14 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 8-9 FT), 11 assists, three steals, and one rebound in 34 minutes during Monday's 120-113 victory over the Nets.
Teague made his return to the lineup after missing seven straight games with a knee injury. He played 34 minutes Monday, producing his first double-double of the season in the process. Teague appeared healthy and owners have to be thrilled with his production. Barring any setbacks, he should be ready to roll Wednesday when the Timberwolves host the Pelicans.... See More ... Timberwolves' Karl-Anthony Towns: Huge double-double Monday
Towns finished with 25 points (9-11 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 5-6 FT), 21 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal in 37 minutes during Monday's 120-113 victory over the Nets.
Towns was dominant Monday, recording his first 20/20 game of the season. He hit 9-of-11 shot attempts including 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Towns is ramping his production up and with Jimmy Butler now out of the picture, could be set for an explosion moving forward. He is currently averaging over two blocks per game which is by far the highest mark of his career. Dario Saric and Robert Covington are set to make their debut's Wednesday and it will be interesting to see how everyone fits together.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Andrew Wiggins: Starting Monday
Wiggins (quad) will start Monday's game against the Nets, Chris Hine of the Minnesota Star Tribune reports.
Wiggins is starting Monday's game and has no known restrictions after being initially listed as a game-time decision with bruised quad he suffered on Saturday. With Jimmy Butler traded to Philadelphia and Robert Covington and Dario Saric not yet ready to play, Wiggins will likely see significant run on Monday.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Jeff Teague: Will play vs. Nets
Teague (knee) is available and will start Monday's game against Brooklyn.
Teague managed to go through morning shootaround, and he's been cleared to return to action following a seven-game absence due to a lingering knee bruise. With Teague back in the starting lineup, Derrick Rose and Tyus Jones will revert back to the bench and should see less playing time going forward.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Jerryd Bayless: Ruled out Monday
Bayless (knee) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Nets, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Bayless was included in the trade that sent Jimmy Butler to the 76ers. The veteran guard is currently dealing with a knee sprain, though he doesn't figure to crack the rotation in Minnesota even when healthy with Jeff Teague (knee), Derrick Rose and Tyus Jones all ahead of him on the depth chart.... Timberwolves' Robert Covington: Ruled out Monday
Covington (coach's decision) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Nets, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Covington was traded to the Timberwolves on Saturday in the deal that sent Jimmy Butler to Philadelphia, but he'll have to wait until Thursday (at the earliest) to make his Minnesota debut. The 27-year-old, who is averaging 11.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.8 blocks per game this season, should slot into the Timberwolves' starting lineup once he's cleared to play. Covington's next chance to play comes Thursday against the Pelicans.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Dario Saric: Won't play Monday
Saric (coach's decision) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Nets, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Saric will have to wait to make his Minnesota debut after coming over from the 76ers on Saturday in the deal that sent Jimmy Butler to Philadelphia. It's unclear how the Timberwolves intend on using Saric right away, though he figures to see a healthy of dosage of minutes whether he's starting or coming off the bench. Look for Taj Gibson and Gorgui Dieng to see increased run with Saric out. His next chance to play will come Thursday against the Pelicans.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Jeff Teague: Goes through shootaround
Teague (knee) went through shootaround Monday morning, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Teague has been shelved for the last seven games with a bruised knee, but he was a full participant in shootaround Monday morning, leaving open the possibility that he could return to action later in the day against the Nets. Considering Teague was listed as "out" on the Wolves' initial injury report, it seems rather unlikely that he'll play Monday, but at the very least it appears he's nearing a return. If Teague is ultimately held out, his next chance to play would come Wednesday against New Orleans.... See More ... See Less
