Timberwolves' Derrick Rose: Practices Thursday
Rose (knee) went through Thursday's practice, Dane Moore of 1500AM ESPN Radio reports.
Coach Tom Thibodeau noted that Rose is "good", but that's far from a confirmation that Rose will be available Friday against the Trail Blazers. He should tentatively be considered questionable, with another update likely arriving after morning shootaround.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Karl-Anthony Towns: Back-to-back 25-point outings
Towns recorded 25 points (9-17 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 5-5 FT), 16 rebounds, three assists and two blocks across 35 minutes in Wednesday's 107-100 win over the Pelicans.
New pickups Robert Covington and Dario Saric made their team debuts for Minnesota after coming over from Philadelphia in a blockbuster trade over the weekend, but neither seemed to have a negative impact on Towns' production. The offense continued to run through the franchise center, who is averaging an outstanding 25.5 points, 16.3 boards, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.8 three-pointers in 37.8 minutes per game over the past four contests. The only downside of Towns' added usage of late is that it has resulted in an increased turnover rate, with the big man coughing up the ball a whopping 25 times over that four-game stretch.... Timberwolves' Gorgui Dieng: Faces more competition for minutes
Dieng scored two points with four rebounds in 13 minutes in Wednesday's win over New Orleans.
Dieng was already seeing a reduced role this season (13.4 mpg from 16.9 mpg last year) and the acquisition of two front-court additions in Robert Covington and Dario Saric won't help. He'll still get some minutes when the T-Wolves need a bigger lineup, but his upside off the bench is even more limited.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Josh Okogie: Provides spark off bench
Okogie scored 11 points with five rebounds, three steals and an assist in 17 minutes in Wednesday's win over New Orleans. He was 3-of-5 from three-point range.
Okogie provided a spark with several hustle plays that should keep him in the mix off the bench. He played 17 minutes in the first game with new acquisitions Robert Covington and Dario Saric in the mix. While that's lower than his 25.1 minutes per game average, it shows he can still be a factor off the bench.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Anthony Tolliver: Stuck on bench with new acquisitions
Tolliver did not play in Wednesday's win over New Orleans due to a coach's decision.
With Minnesota trading for Robert Covington and Dario Saric, it looks like Tolliver may be stuck on the bench. Head coach Tom Thibodeau tends to give heavy minutes to his starters and uses a small rotation of players off the bench, so Tolliver may see few minutes. Minnesota may not need Tolliver's three-point shooting prowess as much with Covington in the starting lineup.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Taj Gibson: Scores 10 points in Wednesday's win
Gibson registered 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-4 FT), four rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 28 minutes during Wednesday's 107-100 win over the Pelicans.
Gibson held onto his starting spot, with recent addition Dario Saric coming off the bench to play 20 minutes. Gibson has already made it clear he's willing to come off the bench in the event that coach Tom Thibodeau decides to swap Saric into the starting five. Regardless, the additional depth down low does not bode well for Gibson's fantasy value, as he was already merely a decent low-end option in standard leagues.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Robert Covington: Plays team-high 41 minutes in Wednesday's win
Covington collected 13 points (4-11 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), seven rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block in 41 minutes during Wednesday's 107-100 win over the Pelicans.
Covington was a major factor in this his first game with the Timberwolves, providing his usual supply of three-point shooting and defense while earning a team high minute total. Covington's performance in this one illustrates why he was so highly coveted in the recent Jimmy Butler trade, as his ability to space the floor offensively and stop opposing teams from scoring on the other end fits perfectly within coach Tom Thibodeau's master plan.... Timberwolves' Andrew Wiggins: Scores season-high 23 points in Wednesday's win
Wiggins supplied 23 points (8-22 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 3-5 FT), six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and one block in 38 minutes during Wednesday's 107-100 win over the Pelicans.
Wiggins was a game-time call due to a bruised knee but ultimately gave it a go. Given his stat line (season high in scoring), minute total, and how frequently he attacked the basket, it's safe to say Wiggins was not overly bothered by the ailment. Expect him to be just as aggressive in Friday's matchup with the Trail Blazers.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Jeff Teague: Hands out season-high 14 assists
Teague totaled 14 points (4-13 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 5-6 FT), 14 assists, two rebounds, one steal and one block in 37 minutes during Wednesday's 107-100 win over the Pelicans.
Teague finished with a season high in assists while notching his second straight double-double. After missing seven consecutive games with a knee injury, Teague returned to the lineup with a sterling performance in Monday's win over the Nets, in which he compiled 24 points, 11 dimes, three steals, and one board in 35 minutes. With Derrick Rose (knee) now bothered by the injury bug, Teague could be relied on heavily once again during Friday's matchup with the Trail Blazers, especially if Rose remains sidelined.... Timberwolves' Dario Saric: Scores nine points in Wednesday's win
Saric tallied nine points (3-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, two steals, and one assist in 20 minutes during Wednesday's 107-100 win over the Pelicans.
Saric played well in his Timberwolves debut, showcasing the strong effort and well-rounded contributions that made him a target in the recent trade. Saric's shooting and versatility should allow coach Tom Thibodeau the freedom to pair him with most other frontcourt options, though for now it seems that Saric and Taj Gibson will split the available minutes at power forward, with the veteran holding onto his starting role, at least for now.... Timberwolves' Dario Saric: Coming off bench
Saric will come off the bench Wednesday against the Pelicans, Jace Frederick of the Pioneer Press reports.
The Wolves will start Robert Covington on the wing in his first game with the team, but they'll apparently stick with Taj Tibson at power forward for the time being. For now, Saric will function as the first forward off the bench.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Derrick Rose: Out Wednesday
Rose (knee) is out Wednesday against the Pelicans, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Rose was previously listed as questionable. However, leading up to tipoff, he determined he's in too much discomfort to take the floor. While Rose is sidelined, Tyus Jones could see a bump in minutes.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Jeff Teague: Available vs. Pelicans
Teague (knee) is available to play in Wednesday's game against the Pelicans, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
The news of Teague's availability comes alongside news that Derrick Rose (knee) will not play in Wednesday's game after being a late addition to the injury report. In Teague's return to the court Monday, he played in 34 minutes and appeared to be perfectly healthy, and he may be in line for even more minutes Wednesday with Rose sidelined. Tyus Jones will serve as the primary backup at point guard.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Andrew Wiggins: Cleared to play Wednesday
Wiggins will play Wednesday against the Pelicans, Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic reports.
Wiggins was initially ruled a game-time call due to a bruised knee, but after going through a pregame workout he's been cleared to play. Expect Wiggins to start on the wing alongside new acquisition Robert Covington.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Robert Covington: Starting Wednesday
Covington will start Wednesday's game against the Pelicans, Kent Youngblood of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
It was previously known that Covington would play, but it was unclear if he would start. In entering the starting five for Minnesota, Covington should see a similar workload to the 33.8 minutes he garnered in Philadelphia.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Jerryd Bayless: Out Wednesday
Bayless (knee) is out Wednesday against the Pelicans.
Bayless has yet to play this season while recovering from a sprained knee. His next chance to take the floor arrives Friday against the Trail Blazers.... See More ... See Less
Timberwolves' Derrick Rose: Questionable with knee soreness
Rose is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Pelicans due to left knee soreness.
Rose obviously has a dark history with knee injuries, but he is still a surprise addition to the injury report with Wednesday's game just under three hours from tip-off. Rose will likely end up being a game-time decision against the Pelicans, and if he is ruled out, Tyus Jones and rookie Josh Okogie could be in line for a heavy dose of minutes, especially if either Jeff Teague (knee) or Andrew Wiggins (quad) are ruled out.... Timberwolves' Dario Saric: Will make Wolves debut Wednesday
Saric will play Wednesday against the Pelicans, Malika Andrews of ESPN reports.
Both Saric and Robert Covington will make their Timberwolves debut Wednesday night, but coach Tom Thibodeau did not specify whether either player would be in the starting lineup. Saric may face some competition from veteran, and Thibs favorite, Taj Gibson, but the expectation is he'll eventually take over the starting power forward spot.... See More ... See Less
