Top 76ers News

  • 76ers' Joel Embiid: Good to go for Monday

Embiid (head) wasn't listed on Philadelphia's injury report ahead of Monday's game against Detroit, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Embiid didn't practice Sunday because of a migraine headache, but he'll be ready to play in his squad's upcoming matchup. He'll presumably take on his usual role within the starting five.

  • 76ers' Landry Shamet: Questionable for Monday

Shamet (back) didn't practice Sunday and is questionable for Monday's game against the Pistons, Tom Moore of the Bucks County Courier Times reports.

It's unclear when Shamet suffered the lower back injury, but per reports, didn't partake in Sunday's practice and will be a game time decision for Monday's contest. With Markelle Fultz out for an extended period of time, teammates T.J. McConnell and Shake Milton are candidates to have an extended role if Shamet is held out Monday.

  • 76ers' Joel Embiid: Doesn't practice Sunday

Embiid did not participate in Sunday's practice due to a migraine, Rich Hofmann of The Athletic reports.

Embiid missed Friday's game for rest purposes, and his absence from Sunday's practice puts him in jeopardy of missing a second consecutive contest. The big man should be considered questionable for Monday's game against the Pistons at this point. If Embiid is unable to play, Mike Muscala and Amir Johnson would once again stand to benefit from some extra run.

  • 76ers' Ben Simmons: Continues double-double streak

Simmons scored 18 points (8-11 FG, 2-2 FT) while adding 14 rebounds, six assists, three blocks and a steal in 40 minutes during Friday's 117-111 win over the Pistons.

It's his 18th double-double of the season, including one in each of the last four games, but it's a testament to Simmons' multi-category excellence that he keeps finding new ways to record one -- in addition to points and boards, he's picked up points/assists and boards/assists double-doubles during that four-game stretch, while also extending his streak of games with at least one steal to 11.

  • 76ers' Jimmy Butler: Erupts for 38 against Pistons

Butler scored 38 points (13-27 FG, 1-6 3Pt, 11-12 FT) while adding six rebounds, six assists, three steals and a block in 39 minutes during Friday's 117-111 win over the Pistons.

The 29-year-old stepped up with Joel Embiid (rest) in street clothes, and Butler was especially aggressive on the glass -- five of his six boards were in the offensive end. While his production as a Sixer has been inconsistent so far, he's now scored more than 30 points in three of the last six games.

  • 76ers' Amir Johnson: Starting Friday

Johnson will start at center in place of Joel Embiid (rest) for Friday's matchup against the Pistons, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Friday marks Embiid's first absence of the season, and Johnson is set to see extra run as a result. In 18 starts last year, Johnson averaged 6.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 20.5 minutes.

  • 76ers' Joel Embiid: Will not play vs. Pistons

Embiid has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Pistons due to rest purposes, Serena Winters of NBC Sports Philadelphia reports.

Head coach Brett Brown said that Embiid was noticeably fatigued following Wednesday's game in Toronto, so the team will give the big man a well-deserved night off. In Embiid's absence, Mike Muscala will likely be the biggest benefactor and see plenty of extra minutes at center, while Amir Johnson should also see some extended run.

  • 76ers' Jimmy Butler: Records double-double in 38 minutes

Butler accounted for 38 points (15-27 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 4-4 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 38 minutes Wednesday as Philadelphie fell to Toronto.

Butler posted a season-high with 38 points and chipped in ten rebounds along the way, notching him his second double-double of the season. While he got off to a slow start on the offensive end since joining the 76ers, Butler has now eclipsed the 30-point threshold for the second time in his last five games. It's reasonable to expect Butler to return to his normal, bucket-getting self once he adjusts to playing with his new teammates and they adjust to playing alongside him.

  • 76ers' Ben Simmons: Posts double-double in 34 minutes

Simmons scored eight points (4-6 FG), grabbed 10 rebounds, recorded 11 assists, and snatched one steal in 34 minutes Wednesday as Philadelphie fell to Toronto.

Simmons came two points short of a triple-double Wednesday and failed to find his way to the charity stripe in 34 minutes of action. He manages to provide plenty of fantasy value in a variety of categories, but he hasn't shown considerable improvement when comparing his sophomore and rookie seasons. It will be interesting to watch Simmons continue to develop his game as the 76ers team dynamic changes with the recent acquisition of Jimmy Butler.

  • 76ers' Wilson Chandler: Starting Wednesday

Chandler will start Wednesday's game against the Raptors.

Chandler, who missed Sunday's game against Memphis with a quad injury, will play and start Wednesday. The veteran wing has played in 13 games, averaging 5.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 23.0 minutes in what has shaped up to be an injury plagued year so far.

  • 76ers' Mike Muscala: Heads to bench Wednesday

Muscala will return to the bench for Wednesday's game against the Raptors.

Muscala, who got a spot start Sunday in place of Wilson Chandler, will head back to the bench Wednesday with Chandler returning to the starting lineup. In 19 games this year, including two starts, Muscala is averaging 8.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 threes in 23.7 minutes.
