Top Trail Blazers News

  • Trail Blazers' Jusuf Nurkic: Awful shooting in Wednesday's loss

Nurkic had two points (1-15 FG, 0-1 3Pt), 10 rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and one assist in 30 minutes during Wednesday's 92-83 loss to the Grizzlies.

Nurkic was downright dreadful offensively, but he salvaged what would've been a miserable statistical performance by providing plenty of boards, steals, and blocks. Marc Gasol is among the top defensive big men in the league and one of the few guys physically capable of going toe-to-toe with Nurkic, who has developed into a dynamite pick-and-roll threat with Damian Lillard.

  • Trail Blazers' C.J. McCollum: Posts 40 points in Wednesday's loss

McCollum exploded for 40 points (16-27 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 6-7 FT), five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and one block in 39 minutes during Wednesday's 92-83 loss to the Grizzlies.

McCollum matched his season high in scoring while contributing in every category. He isn't known for his defensive abilities, so fantasy owners should be sure to savor the steal, block, and boards. With that being said, he remains one of the top offensive guards in the game, and it's long been clear that Damian Lillard has no problem feeding McCollum when he has the hot hand.

  • Trail Blazers' Jake Layman: Sees 14 minutes in Wednesday's loss

Layman had two points (1-1 FG), four rebounds, one steal, and one block in 14 minutes during Wednesday's 92-83 loss to the Grizzlies.

Layman drew the start in place of Maurice Harkless (rest) and posted a decent line, albeit in limited minutes. With that being said, three reserves saw more time than Layman, who earned only the eighth-most minutes on the team. Apart from his 24-point showing in last Thursday's blowout win versus the Suns, Layman hasn't exactly been delivering much in the way of counting stats.

  • Trail Blazers' Jake Layman: Starting Wednesday

Layman will start Wednesday's game against the Grizzlies, Jason Quick of The Athletic reports.

Layman will take the place of Maurice Harkless who's out for rest purposes. Through 22 games this year, Layman is averaging 5.7 points and 2.4 rebounds in 15.7 minutes.

  • Trail Blazers' Anfernee Simons: Out Wednesday

Simons (illness) is out Wednesday against the Grizzlies, Casey Holdahl of the Trail Blazers' official site reports.

Fighting an upper respiratory infection, Simons will miss a third straight contest. His next chance to take the floor arrives Friday against the Raptors.

  • Trail Blazers' Maurice Harkless: Out for rest Wednesday

Harkless is out for rest Wednesday against the Grizzlies, Jason Quick of The Athletic reports.

Harkless missed 12 games earlier in the season due to knee soreness, so the Blazers will give him off Wednesday, which is the second half of a back-to-back set. Jake Layman and Evan Turner could see extra run as a result.

  • Trail Blazers' C.J. McCollum: Pours in 22 points Tuesday

McCollum contributed 22 points (10-21 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 2-4 FT), four assists and three rebounds across 39 minutes in Tuesday's 111-103 loss to the Rockets.

It was a tale of two games for McCollum, who shot extremely well within the arc, but failed to hit one from deep. He'll look to iron out the inconsistencies with his scoring going forward.

  • Trail Blazers' Jusuf Nurkic: Double-doubles Tuesday

Nurkic collected 15 points (3-9 FG, 9-10 FT), 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks across 32 minutes in Tuesday's 111-103 loss to the Rockets.

Nurkic continues to be extremely efficient for the Blazers, complementing the team's backcourt players nicely with consistent offensive and defensive production on the interior. His ability to get to the charity stripe only helps his cause, as he is over 75 percent on the year from the line.

  • Trail Blazers' Damian Lillard: Drops team-high 34 points

Lillard tallied 34 points (12-25 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 6-7 FT), two rebounds and two assists across 39 minutes in Tuesday's 111-103 loss to the Rockets.

While Lillard kept the point total inflated Tuesday night, his rebounds and assists fell off from his season averages of 5.2 and 6.4 respectively. He'll look to do more as a teammate to lead his crew to a win next time out.

  • Trail Blazers' Al-Farouq Aminu: Double-doubles Tuesday

Aminu totaled 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt), 15 rebounds and two assists across 37 minutes in Tuesday's 111-103 loss to the Rockets.

Aminu has been anything but consistent on offense, as he has trouble creating points despite being in the starting rotation with ample time to play. After a 15-game stretch of no double-doubles, he now has two in his last four tries and will look to keep it trending up.

  • Trail Blazers' Anfernee Simons: Remains out Tuesday

Simons (illness) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Rockets, Casey Holdahl of the Trail Blazers' official site reports.

Simons will miss a second straight game as he continues to battle an upper respiratory infection. It's still unclear how long Simons will remain sidelined, though his absence shouldn't affect Portland's usual rotation given his minimal role.

  • Trail Blazers' C.J. McCollum: Plays 33 minutes Saturday

McCollum ended with 19 points (7-15 FG, 3-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds, four assists, two blocks, and one steal in 33 minutes during Saturday's 113-105 victory over Minnesota.

McCollum returned after missing just one game with an ankle sprain, scoring 19 points including a huge three-pointer to effectively seal the game. The playing time was down a fraction from his season average but he appeared untroubled by the ankle and barring any setbacks, should be good to go for Tuesday's game against the Rockets.

  • Trail Blazers' Jusuf Nurkic: Terrific night Saturday

Nurkic totaled 22 points (7-10 FG, 8-9 FT), 11 rebounds, four assists, four blocks, and three steals in 29 minutes during Saturday's 113-105 victory over the Timberwolves.

Nurkic had his best all-around game of the season Saturday, contributing across the board in the victory. It was Nurkic's highest points total in over two weeks and the seven combined defensive stats were a season-high. With the vast improvement to his free-throw game, Nurkic is rolling along with mid-round value and maintaining that should be no problem.

  • Trail Blazers' Al-Farouq Aminu: Fills it up Saturday

Aminu finished with 14 points (5-9 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 4-6 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, two steals, and one block in 35 minutes during Saturday's 113-105 victory over Minnesota.

Aminu was fantastic for the Trail Blazers during Saturday's win, filling the box score in the impressive victory. Aminu was charged with guarding Karl-Anthony Towns for a large portion of the game and did a supreme job, all things considered. He has now scored in double-digits in four of his past five games and continues to put up fringe standard league value.

  • Trail Blazers' Damian Lillard: Drops 28 points in Saturday's win

Lillard had 28 points (8-16 FG, 4-9 3Pt, 8-9 FT), eight rebounds, six assists, and one steal in 36 minutes during Saturday's 113-105 victory over the Timberwolves.

Lillard hit some big shots down the stretch as the Trail Blazers went on a 15-to-2 run to end the game. After blowing a 10 point lead, the Blazers were more composed to finish things out, running out eight-point victors. Lillard has now scored in excess of 25 points in six of his past seven games while also handing out a combined 48 assists.
