Top Wizards News

  • Wizards' John Wall: Inefficient night Friday

Wall tallied 16 points (6-19 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven assists, one rebound, one steal, and one block in 37 minutes during Friday's 115-104 loss to Brooklyn.

Wall had 16 points to go with seven assists Friday but needed 19 shot attempts to get there. Wall is having a solid season but has been far from spectacular as the Wizards continue to struggle. Sitting at 5-and-10 on the season, some changes could be coming in the near future. If and how this impacts Wall remains to be seen and it is simply hearsay right now. He will remain an elite guard option but those with him on their roster should likely temper their expectations slightly.

  • Wizards' Bradley Beal: Has 20 points in steady effort

Beal totaled 20 points (8-19 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds, and two assists in 38 minutes during Friday's 115-104 loss to the Nets.

Beal scored at least 20 points for the third consecutive game, solidifying himself as arguably the most consistent fantasy player around. His line from night-to-night hovers around the same mark with amazing regularity. Given the Wizards struggles to begin the season, his trajectory is not as clear as it has been the past few seasons. Nonetheless, he still remains an elite top 30 type player and should be on a roster everywhere.

  • Wizards' Kelly Oubre: Scores 18 points in losing effort

Oubre had 18 points (5-6 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 7-8 FT), four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 27 minutes during Friday's 115-104 loss to Brooklyn.

Oubre shot the ball well Friday, ending with 18 points on just six field-goal attempts. He is one of the more inconsistent players available, evidenced here by the fact he scored more than his previous three games combined. Otto Porter continues to have struggle which is affording Oubre some additional run at times but he is more of a fringe standard league player at this stage.

  • Wizards' Dwight Howard: Has best game as a Wizard

Howard finished with 25 points (9-13 FG, 7-10 FT), 17 rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block in 27 minutes during Friday's 115-104 loss to the Nets.

Howard managed season-high totals in both scoring and rebounding Friday, but could not help the Wizards avoid their tenth loss of the season. He has now scored in double-figures in five consecutive games and appears to be meshing somewhat with the other starters. This is likely peak Howard for those with him on their roster, making him a player worth rostering in all standard formats.

  • Wizards' Thomas Bryant: Assigned to G-League

Bryant was assigned to the G-League on Thursday.

Bryant will play during the Capital City Go Go's contest Friday. He's only seen spot run with the Wizards this year, totaling 19 points, eight rebounds and one assist in 27 minutes.

  • Wizards' Bradley Beal: Scores team-high 20 in win over Cavs

Beal scored 20 points (7-16 FG, 3-10 3Pt, 3-4 FT) while adding three rebounds, three assists and three steals in 28 minutes during Wednesday's 119-95 win over the Cavaliers.

The 25-year-old guard continues to be Mr. Consistency for the Wizards. Beal hasn't scored less than 17 points in any game yet this season, and he's struck for 20 or more 11 times in 14 games while draining multiple three-pointers 10 times -- with the latter helping him to become the youngest player in NBA history with 900 career threes, a milestone he reached in Wednesday's victory.

  • Wizards' Jeff Green: Leads bench with 18 in win over Magic

Green scored 18 points (6-7 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT) while adding six rebounds, two steals, an assist and a block in 21 minutes off the bench during Monday's 117-109 win over the Magic.

The veteran forward has proven to be a huge addition to the Wizards' second unit so far this season. Green's 5.2 boards per game would be his best performance in that category since 2009-10, while his offensive efficiency has been outstanding -- his 51.0 percent field-goal shooting and 96.9 percent free-throw shooting would both be career highs. The 32-year-old has never really lived up to the expectations that came with being the fifth overall pick in 2007, but he's still proven to be a solid and versatile complementary player over the years.

  • Wizards' Bradley Beal: Drops 21 in win over Magic

Beal scored 21 points (8-20 FG, 2-10 3Pt, 3-4 FT) while adding eight rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in 37 minutes during Monday's 117-109 win over the Magic.

It's already the 10th time this season (in 13 games) that Beal has struck for 20 or more points, and he hasn't failed to score at least 17 in the remaining three contests. The 25-year-old guard is also providing some surprising value on the defensive end of the court -- his 1.2 blocks per game is by far a career high, putting him on pace to average at least one steal and one block for the first time.

  • Wizards' John Wall: Double-double in win over Magic

Wall scored a team-high 25 points (9-15 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 5-8 FT) while adding 10 assists, four rebounds, a steal and a block in 33 minutes during Monday's 117-109 win over the Magic.

He only has three double-doubles on the season, but all of them have come in the last four games. It's been a somewhat sluggish start to the year for both Wall and the Wizards, but the All-Star point guard appears to be finding his groove.

  • Wizards' Chasson Randle: Assigned to G League

Randle was assigned to the G League on Sunday, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports.

Randle has been tearing up the G League so far this season but has failed to crack the lineup with the Wizards during his brief stint with the team.

  • Wizards' Austin Rivers: Scores season-high 18 points in Saturday's win

Rivers compiled 18 points (7-12 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 4-5 FT), five rebounds, three assists, and one steal in 28 minutes during Saturday's 116-110 win over the Heat.

Rivers mustered up season highs in scoring and rebounding while matching his season high in assists. He has quickly asserted himself as one of the team's top perimeter defenders, though that hasn't exactly translated to the stat sheet on most nights. With that being said, Rivers is a decent option in deeper leagues and would probably become a must-own player in standard leagues if John Wall were to suffer an injury.

  • Wizards' Jeff Green: Records 19 points, 10 boards in Saturday's win

Green supplied 19 points (8-12 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-1 FT), 10 rebounds, and one steal in 34 minutes during Saturday's 116-110 win over the Heat.

Green saw more minutes than any Wizard except John Wall. Moreover, Green finished with season highs in scoring and rebounding, and continues to be a regularly relied upon reserve for the struggling squad. There won't be as many opportunities for Green to operate as the small-ball center now that Dwight Howard is fully healthy, but the veteran forward has clearly earned the trust of coach Scott Brooks.

  • Wizards' Dwight Howard: Posts double-double in Saturday's win

Howard had 11 points (2-7 FG, 7-10 FT), 16 rebounds, and one steal in 33 minutes during Saturday's 116-110 win over the Heat.

Howard grabbed a season high rebounding total while recording his third double-double through five games. While the 32-year-old center is not as explosive as he used to be, he remains a nightly double-double threat so long as he's healthy.
