Lakers' Channing Frye: Undergoes appendectomy
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Frye underwent an appendectomy Friday and will be evaluated in a week, Mike Bresnahan of Spectrum SportsNet reports.

With reports of Frye being evaluated in one week, it appears he'll be absent from the team's first game back from the All-Star break, with a chance of plying Feb. 24 against Sacramento. While he's sidelined, Ivica Zubac could see more run, as he played a season-high 20 minutes Thursday, producing 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Lakers' Kyle Kuzma: Bench-leading scoring total in defeat
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuzma poured in 20 points (9-18 FG, 2-7 3Pt) and added seven rebounds and two assists across 19 minutes during Team USA's 155-124 loss to Team World in the Rising Stars Challenge.

The offensively proficient rookie's scoring total led the Team USA bench, and he was second only to Jaylen Brown in shot attempts on the team. Kuzma has endured his fair share of inconsistency throughout his first season, not exactly a surprising development for a young player. However, the highs have been considerably high for Kuzma, who's scored 20 or more points on 17 occasions over his first 56 games. Julius Randle appears to have a firm hold on the Lakers' starting power forward job, but with Larry Nance's recent departure to Cleveland, Kuzma appears to have a secure and robust second-unit role locked down for the remainder of his rookie campaign.

Lakers' Kyle Kuzma: Struggles in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Kuzma tallied eight points (3-12 FG, 2-9 3Pt), two rebounds and one block across 19 minutes during Thursday's 119-111 loss to the host Timberwolves.

Coming off a 23-point performance, Kuzma struggled mightily from the floor, only recording three field goals over 12 attempts. The rookie out of Utah has produced outings in which he scores well above the 25-point mark, but his season shooting percentage (45.0) indicates that he needs the majority of the offense to reach that point. Kuzma will look to improve upon his first half of the season when the Lakers return from the All-Star break on Feb. 23 against Dallas.

Lakers' Brook Lopez: Six points in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Lopez managed six points (2-5 FG, 2-5 3Pt), two rebounds and one block across 26 minutes during Thursday's 119-111 loss to host Minnesota.

For as big as Lopez is, he only hauled in two rebounds and all of his shot attempts Thursday came from behind the arc. He has occasionally produced scoring games past the 20-point mark this season, but for most of the time, Lopez is lingering in the single digits. This season, the 7-0 center has seen steady declines in minutes, points, free-throw attempts and rebounds as the Lakers try to utilize their younger players.

Lakers' Isaiah Thomas: Struggles with shot Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Thomas managed seven points (3-15 FG, 0-5 3Pt, 1-1 FT), five assists, one rebound and one block across 25 minutes in Thursday's 119-111 loss to the Timberwolves.

Thomas had played just five minutes Wednesday against the Pelicans before getting ejected following a first-quarter scuffle with Rajon Rondo, so Thursday's effort was the second consecutive disappointing outing for his fantasy owners. The 29-year-old thus heads into the All-Star Break with decidedly mixed reviews thus far during his three-game Lakers stint, but the chance to further acclimate to his new team and system during the layoff will likely pay dividends. Thomas should resume logging 25-30 minutes at a minimum on most nights when play resumes, as Lonzo Ball (knee) should be healthy enough to return and reclaim the starting point guard role that Josh Hart has been manning in his stead.
