Mavericks report: Roster

The Sports Xchange
Roster · Getting inside · Notes, quotes

--C Brendan Haywood decided to return to Dallas last summer after being promised the starting role. That changed after they added Tyson Chandler, leaving Haywood a high-priced reserve.

"He's a starter, a top-15 center in this league," Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said of Haywood. "The fact that he comes off the bench happens to be a happenstance of him being on a team that's very strong at that position,"

Haywood was in the starting lineup Friday with Chandler out due to a sprained ankle. Haywood is also expected to start Sunday against Memphis.

--F Corey Brewer was in the active lineup Friday and Rick Carlisle said he wouldn't be afraid of using the four-year vet in specific defensive situations. Carlisle said Brewer has picked up the team's system quickly.

"I can help defensively and guard people. That's what I do."

--G Jason Terry scored 21 off the bench Friday, including several jumpers in the last three minutes that iced the win over Indiana.

"He's been our closure in the fourth quarter," Dirk Nowitzki said. "We're trying to get him going some a little earlier, but he makes big shots for us and makes things happen."

--C Tyson Chandler (sprained right ankle) missed Friday's game against Indiana and is expected to miss Sunday against Memphis.

--F Caron Butler (right knee) is done for the regular season after rupturing his patella tendon. There's a chance he returns for the playoffs.

--G Dominique Jones (right foot stress fracture, right foot) is out indefinitely.
