Pro Days: Syracuse QB Nassib, OL Pugh solid at pro day

If early bookings in his pre-draft itinerary are any indication, Syracuse senior quarterback Ryan Nassib might not have to leave the state to find a new place to lay his helmet.

Before freshening up for a night on the town with Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg -- OK, they're going to dinner -- Nassib completed 69 of 75 passes in a rehearsed throwing session coordinated by former NFL quarterback and assistant coach Ken Anderson and former NFL coordinator Paul Hackett.

Nassib will also meet with the Buffalo Bills, who were represented by general manager Buddy Nix. The Bills drafted eighth, one spot before the Jets. Both teams are expected to be in the market for quarterbacks pending the outcome of free agency. The Bills are now coached by Doug Marrone, who left Syracuse in January to accept the position.

The Bengals are another team that reportedly set up a meeting with Nassib.

Nassib is NFLDraftScout.com's fifth-ranked quarterback, but the closely huddled pecking order at the position leaves open the possibility that the top five or six could be valued much higher -- or lower -- by certain teams.

Nassib has enough arm but has to prove he can land the deep ball consistently. The other big question is whether he'll remain sound of mind in the face of a crumbling pocket. To that end, there are scouts concerned that his top-level toughness could lead to poor decisions in that he'll be inclined to play the role of hero -- leading to big hits or interceptions -- rather than live to fight another down.

--Offensive lineman Justin Pugh pumped up 22 reps of 225, significant headway toward proving he's recovered from shoulder surgery. Multiple outlets reported Thursday that Pugh worked out for the Eagles earlier in the week on campus. He's a potential top-50 prospect who could rise up draft boards in the coming weeks.
