09/15/2010 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: LB Ian Thomas - Northern Illinois' best offensive option is senior running back Chad Spann, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards and 19 touchdowns last year. Thomas, the weak-side linebacker, is the guy who needs to fill the gaps and wrap up Spann before his low center of gravity and shifty moves turn small runs into big gainers. Thomas ranks second on Illinois' tackle chart with 17 stops in the first two games. He owns 2.5 tackles for loss, which includes an eight-yard sack.
