03/16/2012 - Football isn't all about what happens on the field. Sometimes what goes on inside a player's head can be just as important. And that is where Monroe graduate Audie Cole believes he stood out in the recently completed NFL Draft Combine in Indianapolis. The combine is the showcase where NFL teams get to test, observe, measure and judge the character of the top prospects for next month's draft. Cole, who completed an outstanding career at North Carolina State this season, was one of the linebackers invited to the combine. His best performance was in the three-cone drill, where he was fifth among the linebackers. Cole had been training for the physical tests for months, but didn't put together his best day at the combine. "I wasn't all too happy with my performance," he said. "I think I did OK on some. There were some others where I know I could have down better. But that's part of the experience. They try to wear you down and see how you will react." He will get a second chance to perform the physical tests that he was disappointed with at the combine. "I'll keep working after the Pro Day," Cole said. "That's when teams can come in and start working out players individual. Then in April, they might bring you to their facility for a workout." Between the Senior Bowl and the combine, Cole believes he has been interviewed by every NFL team. But he has no idea which teams are most interested in him. "I have no idea," he said. "I could go anywhere. Anywhere is fine with me. It's not important where I go." - Niles Kruger, Monroe Evening News

01/04/2012 - Monroe graduate Audie Cole has completed his football career at North Carolina State, but he will have one last hurrah. Cole has been chosen to play in the Senior Bowl Jan. 28 in Mobile, Ala. The all-star game will be carried on the NFL Network at 4 p.m. Cole is a middle linebacker who finished the season as North Carolina State's leading tackler with 108. He had 13 1/2 tackles for loss, 5 1/2 sacks, forced 4 fumbles and broke up 4 passes. After making 328 career tackles in 51 games, the 6-5, 239-pounder is projected as a NFL draft choice. The Senior Bowl will be a good place to showcase his talents. NFL coaches and general managers evaluate the players leading up to the game. - Monroe Evening News

12/27/2011 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: LB Audie Cole has been the team's leading tackler in the past and his 98 tackles are one behind S Earl Wolff for the team lead. Cole has continued to make the transition from outside linebacker to a spot in the middle. His mobility is an asset in the defense and keeping track of him is often a priority for opponents. - The Sports Xchange

09/22/2011 - Pead will be facing one of the active linebackers in the country in NC State's Audie Cole, however. The 6-4, 239 pound Cole played strongside linebacker throughout most of his career, but was moved inside this season to help make up for the loss of Nate Irving -- a third round pick by the Denver Broncos (No. 67 overall). Cole is athletic and generally recognizes the action quickly. This can lead to a lot of splashy plays at or near the line of scrimmage. Last season, however, he was prone to over-running the play, leaving cutback angles to backs with good vision and burst. He also had a tendency to hit ball-carriers, rather than wrapping them up securely. This is precisely why Pead could spring a big play or two on the Wolfpack. Not surprisingly, Cole leads NC State in tackles for loss (5.5 in only three games) and is a close second to safety Earl Wolfe in total tackles (Wolfe has 28, Cole has 22). Cole has also racked up 1.5 sacks and has already forced and recovered a fumble this season. The versatile Cole currently is graded as an inside linebacker by NFLDraftScout.com and rates as our No. 4 senior at the position. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

08/09/2011 - KEYS TO SUCCESS: The Wolfpack will have time to work some of its new starters into game situations against a relatively weak early schedule. Most of the scrutiny is bound to fall on QB Mike Glennon on the offensive said. The Wolfpack has moved LB Audie Cole, who led the 2009 team in tackles and shared the team lead in 2010, to a middle linebacker position that was previously occupied by Nate Irving. Cole was effective on the outside, so the key will be for him to continue his level of production from the inside position. - The Sports Xchange

07/18/2011 - 2011 BUTKUS AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Audie Cole, North Carolina State, has been selected one of 51 linebackers named to the 2011 Butkus Award Preseason Watch List for the 2011 college football season. The award is handed out annually to the top linebacker in college football. - The Butkus Foundation

07/13/2011 - 2011 ROTARY LOMBARDI AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Audie Cole, LB, NC St., (Led team in tackles in '09, 3rd on team with 86 in '10), has been selected to the Rotary Lombardi Award Preseason watch list for the 2011 college football season. Eligibility for the Rotary Lombardi Award is limited to down linemen, end-to-end, either on offense of defense, who set up no farther than 10 yards to the left or right of the ball, and linebackers who set up no father than five yards deep from the line of scrimmage. This is the 42nd year that the Rotary Lombardi Award has named the nation's college lineman of the year. - The Rotary Lombardi Award Committee

05/09/2011 - STARS OF 2011: LB Audie Cole had a huge year as a junior, finishing third on the team in tackles. He had 10 hits behind the line, five sacks, an interception and two fumbles forced and recovered. Now he's shifting to the middle, hoping that gives him more opportunities to influence the action on defense. - The Sports Xchange

05/09/2011 - PLAYERS TO WATCH IN 2011: LB Audie Cole had a breakout junior season and showed himself as one of the best tacklers on the team. He'll be the leader on the defense as a senior, and along with Terrell Manning and Dwayne Maddox will anchor a linebacking corps that should be one of the top groups in the ACC. - The Sports Xchange

05/09/2011 - BUILDING BLOCKS: The defense is led by Audie Cole, who will take on a new position this spring, He's moving to the middle to take over for the departed Nate Irving, since that's where linebackers coach Jon Tenuta thinks he can do the most damage. With eight starters back, the Wolfpack look to improve further on a unit that was a lot better in 2010 than it was in the defensive debacle that was the 2009 season. - The Sports Xchange
