04/29/2012 - A closer look at the Packers' picks: Round 5/163 -- Terrell Manning, LB, 6-2, 237, North Carolina State...Two-year starter at outside linebacker will go inside in 3-4. Knee injuries in past hurt his draft stock but a lot to like with his playmaking attributes. - The Sports Xchange

04/29/2012 - No sooner did Green Bay have Worthy, who will be moved from tackle to end on the line, than it swung a trade with the New England Patriots to get an additional pick late in the second round to take Hayward. "I'm going crazy," the notoriously conservative Thompson said afterward. "We liked those guys. We had 'em rated as guys that could come in and help our team and be a part of our team." The deal with the Patriots cost the Packers their lone third-round pick (No. 90) and their only fifth-round pick (No. 163). In an odd twist, Green Bay wound up recouping that fifth-round choice at the same spot when Thompson executed his last big trade Saturday. He connected with the Patriots again for a shot to take North Carolina State linebacker Terrell Manning at No. 163. To do so, Thompson parted with the Packers' lone sixth-round pick (No. 197) and two of their four seventh-round choices (Nos. 224 and 235). "It's almost like kissing your sister - you come back and you trade for your own pick or something," Thompson said. "It's just the way it worked out. It was a place where we felt like a player (Manning) was being undervalued a little bit, and we didn't know how long he would be undervalued." - The Sports Xchange

04/16/2012 - With the NFL Draft less than two weeks away (April 26-28, New York), Terrell Manning's decision to leave N.C. State after the 2011 season is beginning to look somewhat risky. While most of the draft analysts still see the 6-foot-3, 237-pound outside linebacker as a likely pick, Manning's status has slipped some during the past month. Once assessed as a second-rounder, Manning has slipped into the fourth/fifth round range in several of the projections. A couple of those even think he might wind up in the big post-draft pool of free agents. Manning's decision to go pro no doubt was swayed in part by a knee injury he sustained last season. After surgery he was able to return two weeks later and played a key role in the Wolfpack's strong finish, 8-5 record and bowl win over Louisville. It's not completely impossible that three State linebackers will be drafted. Inside LB Audie Cole is generally projected to go in the third or fourth round. Dwayne Mattox, an outside LB, has a some chance of going late. UNC's Zach Brown has a shot at being the first outside linebacker picked. The first ACC player to go could be Boston College inside LB Luke Kuechly. - The News & Observer

01/04/2012 - N.C. State's football team will need a new leader on defense next season and a new linebackers coach. Junior linebacker Terrell Manning has entered the NFL draft, the N.C. State confirmed Tuesday, and his position coach Jon Tenuta agreed to join the staff at the University of Illinois. Manning, one of the Wolfpack's best defensive players, finished the 2011 season with 76 tackles and three interceptions, including one in the Wolfpack's bowl win over Louisville on Dec. 27. Manning has hired an agent, which closes the door on a return for his senior season. Manning missed two games with a knee injury, including the 44-14 loss at Cincinnati on Sept. 22. His return was one of the main reasons for the defense's improvement over the second half of the 2011 season. His decision to leave marks a change from his postgame comments after the bowl win and from Nov. 22, when he said after a team practice that he would be back for his senior season. "I'm definitely looking forward to coming back next year," Manning said then. Manning was not available for comment on Tuesday. A two-year starter, Manning played well down the stretch, with five of his sacks in the final seven regular-season games, to likely improve his draft stock. He had a season-best 11 tackles in a 13-0 win over North Carolina, a dominant effort by N.C. State's defense. - J.P. Giglio, The Charlotte Observer

01/04/2012 - I have to admit I was surprised to hear yesterday that former Scotland High School linebacker Terrell Manning had opted to forego his final season at N.C. State to enter the NFL draft. Terrell had much to gain by returning to play for the Wolfpack in 2012. He would have been a strong candidate for the Butkus Award, given annually to the nation's best linebacker, and the acknowledged leader of what was shaping up to be a stellar defensive unit at N.C. State. There is no doubt that another year in college would have enhanced Manning's stock with NFL scouts. But somebody - not the N.C. State coaching staff - has convinced Manning he'll be taken high enough in the April draft to make it worth his while. While there is no doubt Terrell Manning has the athletic skills to play in the NFL, it's going to take some impressive performances at the NFL combine (if he's invited) and pro timing days to get him selected in the first three rounds of the draft. Manning has made his choice, and we wish him the best. But it sure would have been fun to watch him flying all over the field for the Wolfpack one more season. - Sammy Batten, The Fayetteville Observer

01/04/2012 - North Carolina State linebacker Terrell Manning will leave to enter the NFL Draft the university confirmed Tuesday. After missing a couple games early in the season with a knee injury, Manning's draft stock rose quickly in the second half of the year. In the season's last eight games, Manning recorded 66 tackles and added five sacks with three interceptions. The 6-foot-3 Manning was injured during the South Alabama game on Sept. 17. After a minor surgery, he returned for the Central Michigan game where he was credited for nine tackles (1.5 for loss) and hauled in an interception. Manning was twice named ACC linebacker of the week in 2011 and was selected to the All-ACC Second Team. The redshirt junior out of Scotland High School emerged as a starter in 2010 when he finished fourth on the team with 75 tackles, tied for second on the team in sacks and forced a pair of fumbles. Manning redshirted his freshman year while rehabbing from a knee injury sustained in his final game of high school. - WRAL

12/27/2011 - Scouting the North Carolina State run defense: The Wolfpack was shattered along the defensive front for most of the season and that allowed teams to pick them apart across the line of scrimmage. But that has been an evolving situation and the Wolfpack toughened up during the final month with the return of players from injuries that either sidelined them or limited them. The linebackers are well respected in LB Terrell Manning and LB Audie Cole. - The Sports Xchange

11/07/2011 - WEEK 10 ACC LINEBACKER OF THE WEEK: Terrell Manning, NC State, Jr., LB, 6-3, 233, Laurinburg, N.C. - Manning had a huge game for the Wolfpack, which shut out UNC for the first time in 51 years. Manning, a junior form Laurinburg, N.C., played 59 snaps and had 11 total tackles, a sack for 12 yards, three pass breakups and three quarterback knockdowns. Manning had three stops on third down and one stop on fourth down, all in the game's final 20 minutes. - ACC football

10/10/2011 - LB Terrell Manning was back for the Wolfpack after undergoing minor knee surgery Sept. 19. He didn't ease back in because he was credited with nine tackles, including a sack, and an interception against Central Michigan. - The Sports Xchange

09/21/2011 - Coach Tom O'Brien of N.C. State said Tuesday after practice that linebacker Terrell Manning will be sidelined three weeks as he recovers from a knee injury. Manning, fifth on the team with 14 tackles, was injured Saturday night in a victory against South Alabama and had surgery Monday. Senior Dwayne Maddox will start in his place. - AP Sports
