04/30/2012 - A closer look at the Vikings' picks: Round 6/175 - Blair Walsh, K, 5-9, 187, Georgia...Will be groomed to eventually replace 37-year-old Ryan Longwell. - The Sports Xchange

03/13/2012 - It didn't escape the notice of a few of the top kickers in the 2012 draft class that five players at their position were designated as franchise free agents before a Monday deadline for applying such tags. The five kickers tagged -- Connor Barth (Tampa Bay), Phil Dawson (Cleveland), Mike Nugent (Cincinnati), Matt Prater (Denver) and Josh Scobee (Jacksonville) -- represented the most franchise players at any position. "Those guys win games," said Blair Walsh of Georgia, who is rated by many as the top kicker prospect available in April, despite a subpar 2011 performance in which he converted only 21 of 35 field-goal attempts. Added Carson Wiggs of Purdue, who is also highly regarded by pro evaluators: "Maybe it's a little surprising to some people (that so many kickers were tagged), but it just magnifies how important kickers really are." There hasn't been a kicker chosen above the third round since 2005, when the New York Jets selected Nugent in the second round, and that streak will doubtless continue this year. But in 12 of the past 13 drafts, and 17 of the past 20 years, at least one kicker was picked. Not many teams figure to have kicker as a high priority for the '12 draft, but someone like Walsh, Wiggs, or perhaps Randy Bullock of Texas A&M could sneak into the lottery. - Len Pasquarelli, The Sports Xchange

01/02/2012 - Scouting the Georgia special teams: Special teams has been a mixed bag for the Bulldogs, with more bad than good. Normally reliable PK Blair Walsh has endured a senior slump, making just 19 of 31 field goals this season. Walsh is just 7 of 14 from 40 or more yards. P Drew Butler is averaging 44.3 yards per punt, with 19 downed inside the 20-yard line. Georgia has been poor in kick coverage this season, allowing four kicks (two punts and two kickoffs) to be returned for TDs. Meanwhile, Georgia hasn't returned a punt or kickoff for a TD this season. - The Sports Xchange

11/22/2011 - WEEK 12 SEC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Blair Walsh, Placekicker, Georgia, tied his career high, going 4-for-4 on field goals, in Georgia's 19-10 win against Kentucky...He connected on three 39-yard field goal attempts and also had a 25-yarder in the contest...His 13 points (also had an extra point kick) now give him 394 in his career, which puts him second in SEC and UGA history behind former Bulldog Billy Bennett (409 points)...Walsh's four field goals were Georgia's only points of the contest until early in the fourth quarter...Walsh now has 72 field goals in his career, which is fifth in SEC history. - SEC football

10/10/2011 - WEEK 6 SEC SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Blair Walsh, Kicker, Georgia: Walsh was 2-for-2 in field goals and hit a pair of PATs to help clinch the Bulldogs' 20-12 win at Tennessee. After starting the season 6-for-12, Walsh drilled a 35 yarder in the opening period to put Georgia up 3-0 and then a 23 yarder in the second quarter to give the Bulldogs a 6-3 edge to be perfect for the game. The SEC's active leader with 63 career field goals, Walsh is now eighth in the SEC record books for points scored in a career (350) and has the eighth most field goals of any kicker in league history. He is now third in school history in most points scored behind SEC record holder Billy Bennett and former All-American Kevin Butler. - SEC football

09/30/2011 - Georgia PK Blair Walsh was "not that concerned" about his three missed field goals against Ole Miss. Walsh went 2-for-5 for the day, missing field goal attempts from 48, 48 and 35 yards. "I'm going to break down tape like I do every Sunday, but I'm not that concerned," Walsh said. "I know what happened. Fortunately we got a win, so I can be as upset as I want. The big issue is we got a win, and the missed field goals didn't hurt us to that extent. I'm thankful to my teammates for stepping up." - The Sports Xchange

09/27/2011 - One of the biggest stories coming out of Saturday's 27-13 win over Ole Miss was the 2-for-5 performance of Georgia's senior placekicker Blair Walsh. Walsh is an All-American who missed just three field goals in 23 attempts all of last season and just two in 22 attempts in 2009. Saturday, Walsh uncharacteristically missed two field goals of 48 yards and one of 35. He is now 5-for-10 on the season. But the senior is not ready to change anything about his style just yet. "I missed a couple field goals," Walsh said Monday. "That doesn't mean I have to go revamp everything and change my technique a bunch. I just need to fine-tune some stuff that maybe got a little sloppy and go from there. "I trust my style and my ability to kick a football. I think that's what's gotten me to this point, can't abandon him now." Walsh worked on fine-tuning his approach during practice on Monday but told reporters the needed corrections are "nothing drastic." "Just a couple of approach things and that's it," he said. - Chris Daniello, Red and Black

09/21/2011 - With eight extra points, PK Blair Walsh passed Billy Bennett for most extra points (152) in Georgia history. Walsh also booted a 56-yard field goal, the longest for a Georgia kicker since Brandon Coutu made a 58-yarder in 2005. But Walsh was more giddy about his fumble recovery on a kickoff in the third quarter. "Right place, right time on that one," Walsh said with a grin. "It came right to me, I fell on it and they crushed me. It was nice to actually get hit." - The Sports Xchange

09/19/2011 - WEEK 3 SEC OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE: PK BLAIR WALSH (Georgia) -- Had kick of 56 yards (longest in SEC this season) and connected on all eight PAT tries against Coastal Carolina. - SEC football

09/15/2011 - K Blair Walsh scored nine points on two field goals and three extra points to move into third place all-time in school history with 315 career points. Walsh passed icon RB Herschel Walker, who had 314 points. The 87 points were the most ever scored in a game between Georgia and South Carolina. - The Sports Xchange

09/03/2011 - PLAYERS TO WATCH: PK Blair Walsh - If the game is tight late, it could hinge on the leg of Walsh, who has been money throughout his career. The senior has made 40 of his last 45 field-goal attempts and is 22 for 29 from beyond 40 yards in his career. - The Sports Xchange

07/19/2011 - 2011 SEC PRESEASON ALL-SEC FIRST TEAM (COACHES): PK Blair Walsh, Georgia, Sr., has been selected All-SEC Football Preseason First Team for the 2011 college football season as selected by the SEC head football coaches. - SEC football

07/09/2011 - 2011 LOU GROZA AWARD PRESEASON WATCH LIST: Blair Walsh, Georgia, Sr., has been named to the Lou Groza Award Watch List by the Palm Beach County Sports Commission for the 2011 college football season. The Award recognizes the nation's top place-kicker and is named for National Football League (NFL) Hall of Fame kicker Lou "The Toe" Groza, who played 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns. Appeared in 13 games going 20-for-23 on FGs and 46-for-47 on PATs while also kicking off 74 times for 4,875 yards (65.9 avg.) with 12 touchbacks. Ranked second in the SEC in field goals per game at 1.54. - The Lou Groza Award
