11/21/2012 - The past five days have been busy ones for Florida State K Dustin Hopkins. After setting an NCAA scoring record last Saturday, he accepted an invitation Wednesday morning to play in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala., in late January. The bowl gives invitees an opportunity to come to south Alabama for a week and accept coaching early evaluations from NFL scouts, coaches and general managers who are searching for talent ahead of April's NFL Draft.

FSU QB EJ Manuel accepted an invite last week. Last year, OL Zebrie Sanders, LB Nigel Bradham and P Shawn Powell received invitations to the game. The year before, Seminoles QB Christian Ponder did, as well. Ponder went on to be selected 12th overall by the Minnesota Vikings.

On Monday, Hopkins was also named for the second straight year a finalist for the Lou Groza Award. The honor goes to college football's best kicker each season. Florida's Caleb Sturgis and Tulane's Cairo Santos, who played high school in St. Augustine, are the other finalists. - Coley Harvey, The Orlando Sentinel

The Florida State kicker found out Monday afternoon that for the second time in as many seasons that he was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award, one that is handed out annually by the Palm Beach Sports Commission and that recognizes college football's best kicker. The award, like eight others, will be presented Dec. 6 at Disney during an ESPN telecast.

Hopkins may be the frontrunner for the Groza Award, which also takes into consideration a fan vote. After setting and now shattering ACC records two weeks ago, he set an NCAA career scoring record for kickers last weekend, and is now one field goal shy of tying the Football Bowl Subdivision record for career field goals. Against Maryland over the weekend, a 26-yard field goal allowed him to become the new FBS all-time scoring leader for kickers. The senior currently has 448 career points. Sitting on 85 field goals, he is one shy of tying the all-time career record. - Coley Harvey, The Orlando Sentinel

11/08/2012 - The Seminoles have scored 29 rushing touchdowns this season across their first nine games. That's only six rushing touchdowns away from the school record in that category, a mark that was set in 1995. That season was one in which the Seminoles won an ACC title. However, they lost a Thursday night game that year in the state of Virginia, falling to Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. PLAYERS TO WATCH: K Dustin Hopkins can add to his record-setting totals. The senior, who booted a career-long 56-yard field goal against Duke in his last outing, has 81 career field goals and needs only seven more to break the NCAA record. 10/01/2012 - WEEK 5 ACC SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK: Dustin Hopkins, Florida State, Senior, K, 6-2, 190, Houston, Texas Hopkins got off the deck after an early missed field goal from 48 yards to his final three attempts in the 30-17 win at South Florida. With 12 points on the day, Hopkins also moved into sole possession of second place on the Florida State and ACC career scoring charts, with 377 points. He trails Florida State record holder Derek Schmidt and ACC record holder Nick Novak of Maryland by 16 points - they both finished with 393 - to become the all-time leader. 08/10/2012 - Thanks to new NCAA kickoff rules going into effect this season, FSU's strong-legged kicker finds himself having to temper his kicking style and searching for ways to prevent the ball from traveling as far as he once wanted it to. "It's definitely something I've worked on [this summer]," Hopkins said of tweaking his kicking style. "I'm trying to get height as opposed to driving the ball. It's something I've tried to add to my arsenal of things." In an effort to reduce concussions more common during kickoff return collisions, the NCAA ratified during the offseason kickoff changes to more closely mirror recent NFL alterations. Starting this fall, kickoffs will begin at the kicking team's 35-yard line instead of the 30. Touchbacks will be brought out to the 25-yard instead of the 20. On bouncing onside kicks, the returning team can call for a fair catch. It's a dizzying array of changes that at first had Hopkins perturbed. "I was kind of disappointed that it came out to the 25," Hopkins said of the touchback rule. "That's not as good field position for us. But at the same time, I can't be too upset one way or another." Through his first three seasons, FSU's senior kicker had 94 of his 243 career kickoffs go unreturned in the form of touchbacks. That meant 39 percent of his kicks left opposing offenses starting drives at the 20 yard line. "I hate to say it, but calling inside the 20 and calling plays outside the 20, that's a big difference," FSU coach Jimbo Fisher said. "That's a huge difference because of the odds of when you score and when you punt from inside the 20." - Coley Harvey, The Orlando Sentinel

07/27/2012 - 2012 PRESEASON ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE PRESEASON TEAM (MEDIA): PK Dustin Hopkins, Florida State (54), has been selected Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference football for the 2012 college football season by the ACC media.
